When interviewing, do you hear about the maternity or paternity policies? I’m female and have done interviews with 5 companies so far and I find they all tell me this - does this happen to men too?

Isn’t that a good thing? That way women aren’t put in an awkward position of having to ask and feeling like their chances of landing the job are slimmer because the company thinks work is not their priority, etc. if I was a woman, I’d want to know. Having said that, the last job I interviewed for shared it with me during the process.

As a man, I’ve never had it brought up. I understand you would be annoyed. However, I wish more of my interviews did go into the benefits and policies so I can also make an informed decision about continuing the hiring process. I’ve never felt like I could ask these things in an interview, which I have wanted to.

like

Thanks - I’m not offended when they tell me, I’ve just noticed it as a continued trend. when I speak to male engineering friends, they tell me that they wish recruiters would bring it up but it’s not actively discussed or they need to ask. I think part of it is assumption on the recruiters side and part of it is because of pride so you’re all right.

These policies are expensive investments that the firms make. I can tell you that these things really matter. I took 8 weeks and it was huge (I’m a guy). If I were considering leaving for another firm the parental leave policy is something I would absolutely factor into that decision.

like

If a company feels that their leave is a differentiated benefit that helps them stand out I could see it. I would hope they are highlighting it to all candidates (assuming the leave is extended to both parents).

Oh boy.... no, it most likely does not happen for obvious reasons.... Additionally, for most men it’s a challenge to have them take the full paternal leave... nothing biased against you - just kinda obvious

Male here. I've had it brought up in discussions around total benefits packages.

Also, really strong leave policies signal a commitment to invest in and retain top performing women. Women disproportionately leave consulting after their first child - men less so.

If a firm is really forward leaning in these area that means they’re likely doing other things as well to create a future where more of our partners are female.

Am female and no one ever said this to me.

Im currently studying Industrial Engineering with a minor in management. I’m interviewing currently for consulting, and theres a VC course at my school that seems really interesting but I can’t fit it into my schedule without removing the last class I need for my minor. Would not getting that minor do any harm to me short or long term? Im thinking that if I end up at consulting especially no one will care about a management minor they’ll just look at the firm I worked for.

I recently had an interview with the hiring manager and they did 95% of the talking. It was the weirdest interview I’ve ever had. I didn’t know whether to interrupt and get a question and some comments in or stay quiet and listen. I couldn’t even gauge how it went. Has this happened to you.?

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.
