Hi all,
Need some advice on my next career move. I'm 31, have an MBA and am currently a SC in Risk Advisory with no M&A experience. I am good at risk consulting work but don't find it very challenging or interesting. That said, I expect to get promoted to M next year.
Recently, I interviewed with another Big 4 firm for SC in CDD M&A team and have got an offer. I enjoyed doing the CDD case study, and I believe I'd do well in the role.
Does it make sense to start afresh in M&A at this stage?
Whatever is genuine and makes sense based on their personal background and experiences.
For me M&A forces change in a company. It is reality knocking at the door.
That change creates alignment. People get concerned and make themselves available. You can get time with most people in a deal.
Plus, you don’t have to justify why you are there. They know.
This is such a bad way of looking at this question especially as an interviewer. For me, the best answer is a very personal answer and not something canned.
I simply responded because I wanted to be financially loaded. The guy laughed for a good 30 seconds. I got the job 🤷🏾♂️ Truth is key.
Had to answer that yesterday, I’ll DM
I wouldn’t use someone else’s answer for this. You should be able to clearly articulate why you want to do M&A consulting. As an interviewer, I use this as an opportunity to gauge the candidate’s sincerity/genuineness and also assess how much they actually know about M&A. I can generally tell when someone is giving me a canned answer or telling me what they think I want to hear, and that is a negative mark in my book.
I’m interviewing for a switch from product to M&A this week and am thinking that I’ll discuss how M&A impacts the entire technology ecosystem and what not.
Basically what D1 said. I hate people BS, giving me fluff. Unless you give me details I know u will leave bc the grind is too hard for you to comprehend. Also I would stay in product...
I went through an acquisition at my previous employer and talk about how that experience got me interested in m&a
