When is an appropriate time to cut off your availability for client calls? On travel days I make myself available from 8am-10pm and fridays 8-5. Weekends as needed. Is this too strict?

You seem pretty generous with your time I’ve never made myself available 7 days/week aa a habit, but I will accommodate urgent needs depending on what is happening with the project.

Honestly you need to be 24/7, not good client service otherwise. /s

I think that’s very generous! My time flexes a lot especially during proposals. I am stricter about not replying to clients after 9pm bc I’m tired and want to be careful about what I say haha. I also keep boundaries on weekends. Some will say that’s a bad thing, but setting boundaries with this job has helped me be successful.

Depends on your clients - are these individuals or a corporate relationship?

It sounds to me that you are almost loose with your time. There’s always times when a client needs special assistance vis-a-vis more availability, but most of it should stay within business hours

like

Sounds too generous unless client time zone dictates otherwise. Have had Asia based clients while working on US projects, which means either early morning or late evening calls

I’ve rarely encountered a client who asks to have calls outside of 8-6 their time zone What kind of clients are calling you on the weekend ??

What is the policy at your firme for " side busines"? I have a close friend who wants my help in dealing with a transaction ( basically helping him with drafting the documents) with a big investment fund. He has no money to pay me but offered some equity if the business go forward. The firm would not take him as a client because he could not pay the fees. The fund is not a client at the firm ( but has size to become one). I want to play fair with my firm but also do not miss the opportunity.

What are the ledger growth expectations (dollars or %) at your firm this year? I’m finishing the first year as a new tax partner (not B4). Started with 1.9million ledger and grew to 2.7million with pipeline worked from past years that turned to wins. The pandemic hasn’t allowed much time or travel to refill the pipeline. Now there’s pressure to add 500k and grow to 3.2million by end of 2nd year. Feels like a big number for a second year tax partner.

Job listing: You must have an incredible creative reputation and internationally recognized work. Can we talk about how awards can largely be a pay-to-play scheme?
