When is it normal for the monthly billable hour requirement to count for first year associates? (Started mid Sept).

November 1 and January 1 are both pretty common start dates for the purpose of calculating one’s annualized billable hours

January 1

Same at my firm

My firm is starting ours next month :(

Our firm does November 1 also. Not uncommon. I think generally it helps young associates who start in September get fully up to speed before the hours start counting, so associates don’t come in as first years and have to hit the ground at a sprint, but have a few months to ramp up. I’m sure there are a variety of financial reasons too.

We’re 2,000 for the year, so 166.66.

Nov 1

November 1

At K&E it starts as soon as you start in September (our billing year restarts Sept. 1) but we have no minimum for bonuses and first year hours are basically ignored for review purposes so the slow ramp up time doesn’t really hurt you. I’m assuming some of the differences with other commenters comes from when their firm’s billing year restarts (I believe November 1 is a common date).

January!

Anyone here involved with MBA recruiting? My friend is trying to decide if he wants to attend Kellogg this fall (from South Korea) or just continue his job and re apply to business school for next fall or two years from now. He has an undergrad from a top 10 US school and wants to come back to the US and is also worried about the trump administration and whether he’ll even get to stay in the US.

How do I incorporate an assistant without having to constantly double-check work?

Have been struggling to incorporate an assistant well. I feel like I have to look everything over so much that it doesn't save too much time and I would almost be better off doing everything myself again and keeping the few thousand a month it costs me. I realize it does look more professional to clients, and there are some simple tasks that don't require review, but any advice?

I recently got SHRM Certified Professional certificate and am doing contracting for Whole Foods remotely in an HR/Unemployment role. But, I really need something that pays better than $27.50 an hour and no benefits. Any advice on companies hiring in tech here in Austin, negotiating...pretty much everything is welcome. Thanks.

Lateraled a month ago and after two weeks a very young partner told me my work had “consistently missed the mark” which was not at all in line with other feedback I’ve received. I have my own criticisms for him, and I’ve since learned that most of my peers feel similarly about him. I know I’m a good attorney, and I know I should take it with a grain of salt, but feedback like that two weeks in has left my head spinning and I’m wondering if leaving my old firm was the biggest mistake of my career

Client confidentiality question:
I do UHNW luxury good transactions. About a year ago we represented buyer and seller on a deal. Deal fell apart because the buyer was shady and actively trying to engage in illegal acts. Buyer reached out asking us to represent them in a new purchase attempt, we declined.

They found new counsel and made an offer on the same asset. The owner doesn’t wish to engage with them. Can I give the owners reasons to the new counsel without violating duty to my old client
