When is the best time to mention a clawback provision to a new firm? During the interview when they ask “how soon can you start”? Or after you get an offer?

The clawback doesn’t necessarily prevent me from starting ASAP, but it does affect my start date in some respect & I’d definitely try to negotiate with the new firm to pay all/some of it. For context, the signing bonus is low/mid 5-figures. Thoughts?

I lateraled a couple months ago to an Am Law 100 firm but I feel like I have way less administrative support than my previous boutique. My old paralegal and admin were just completely top notch and did everything non substantive for me. Now I feel like my admin support is so slow and doesn’t know what’s going on with my matters. I’m a second year so I get some of its on me but I feel like this is such a time suck. Do other people feel that way or did I just get a bad draw?

Had an interview last week. Recruiter (who is a recruiter for the firm itself as I applied directly) emailed me today asking how I thought the interviews went. Does this mean anything? I’ve finally reached the stage as a senior associate where I’ve been able to save a nest egg so much less fear of getting fired and loans are close to paid off. I still live like I have my junior associate salary but have been socking cash in savings/house down payment over the years. The only thing accurate about the show Suits, when it comes to the practice of law, is that lawyers work late into the night. The most inaccurate thing is that files are neatly contained in tiny blue folders - oh and that people apologize after being a jerk 😂

Decision - I was out the door of my nationwide ins dfense firm. Was going to top local firm with a lot more clout where everything would be private pay and I’d be more on bigger exposure cases. However, my firm outmatched the new firm, made a much better bonus structure, and said I could do more work with their complex bus lit group. I’d still likely do about 50 percent ins defense but I really like the partners I work for, and I handle own cases/take depos, and get autonomy. Am I right to stay?

Haven’t gotten a response back (have sent a few emails about staffing on new matters) from the partner in over a week and a half since then and they also haven’t stopped by my office which would typically happen once or twice a week. Can it really take over a week to make a decision about whether to invite a candidate for a callback after a screener? Has anyone experienced this? The firm said I would hear either way so I’m not taking silence as a rejection but nervous as to why it’s taking so long.
