Which firm?
IMHO Hitachi has been going downhill for about 2 years after they sent a software guy in to get Software type 90% margins from services. A lot of leadership from Hitachi have gone onto great positions elsewhere from CDOs to SVPs to Principals at other places. Network with ex Hitachi folk while the market is still hiring. If you have marketable skills, network here as there are many would would be happy to earn a referral..
I go with the mentor or reliable counselor any day. Regretting leaving that kind of influencer
The time to leave is when you realize you don’t want to travel Mon-Thur, want to be home with the family, don’ t want to bring work home, don’t want to sell “advice” as you move up and want to do something that is more meaningful than trying to help a client make things better only for them to choose the “not leading practice” because it’s to hard... when you are on a good project, realize these things, young enough and you still have options... generally at senior associate/Manager maybe early in director before you are above market $$ or are willing to take a hit.
Hitachi uses old and outdated solutions and technology. I realized that after leaving and seeing what’s out there at other firms and there are plenty of firms that have projects and not enough resources. You shouldn’t be worrying about getting laid off or fired with the current consulting market.
With. I'm barely a year in, and they've done a good job protecting me from being fired, helping me build a name for myself internally.
I would have left already but I'm not sure I'd get the level of mentorship I'm getting right now from another firm.
It also seems like 1 year of experience is a gray area because new grad positions are offered to campus recruits, and it'll be hard for me to compete with ~2yr experience candidates.
Are you dissatisfied with the work/not being challenged?
Just got off the bench after an extended
stint. So during that time I had BD/internal stuff, but having stratrgize about how to not get fired got annoying/anxiety inducing. Currently back filling for people that got fired, but there should more interesting work ahead.
