You guys just have to have the same understanding of why you are moving in together and it helps if you are both moving in together because you want the relationship to head towards marriage. I recommend the chapter on this in the book The Defining Decade
In a strong believer of moving in together when it's taken as seriously as getting engaged. When it's to save money or convenience as primary factors... do not recommend. Even if you're in NYC or SF (and yes, I know tons of friends who've done it there anyways for economics - still do not recommend).
Agree with C1. If your firm belief is that this woman is your life partner, then go for it. If you have any reservations, wait for a bit longer until you're sure one way or the other. Break-ups between couples who live together are MANY orders of magnitude messier than ones where each has their own place. Trust me on this - I've been there and am sharing from experience.
Was engaged, planning on a low key Oct wedding. Fiance lost her job, so we pulled it forward into August and moved in together then (but immediately let her drive my second car when hers broke.dowm). Been married 3 years. No regrets. As C1 & Z1 say, don't do it just for the money, first figure out how committed you are. Luckily for me, the money issues came up after engagement.
Before you meet. I like to move into a girls place and then see if she likes me. But that's just me.
