When negotiating my salary today, I asked the company that instead of giving me a base +signing bonus, if they could just tag on my signing bonus into my total base. They were hesitant and said they can’t do that....why?? What’s the difference of 90K+ 10k bonus vs 100k base?

The extra 10k becomes a fixed cost instead of variable.

likesmart

And on top of that when you get your 3%-5% COLA, it is 3-5% of $90k versus $100k. Compound that over a 30 year career

like

Why would you negotiate that then ask whats the difference, its an obvious answer.

likefunnysmart

If there is no difference then why don’t you just take 90K + 10K bonus instead of 100K base lmaooo obvi there is a difference since you care

How did you become an audit senior

likefunny

I'm sure you know the answer to this...

likefunny

I mean, the fact that you couldn’t work out the answer to this question is just.... I don’t know how to describe it without giving offense... it’s.... best to say nothing

likefunny

The bonus then becomes an increase each year. No way they will do that

likeuplifting

guessing you were negotiating a manager role; most first year managers dont make over 100k...

funny

Would you rather pay the government 10k once this year or 10k every year?

funny

Hahahah

100k base sets your base for % based raises higher in the future. also a lot of companies have pay bands for each position to make sure a senior isn’t making more than a manager, for example

Also increases are usually based on percentage. Aka you would be getting larger raises in the future.

Huge tax difference

If you end up leaving, you may have to pay back some or all of the bonus (depending on the contract). Also, any year-end bonus % would create a higher cost for the organization of your base is higher.

I received an offer for a Salesforce Functional Business Analyst at Accenture for 128k annually with a 15k signing bonus. I'm hesitant due to the lower title, as I want to move back into PM work, and feel as if I'm taking a step down. Also, concerned with the WLB at Accenture.

Just accepted an offer with a psych startup. Not exactly the offer I was hoping for as I’m taking a slight pay cut ($73/hr) and it’s a 1099 position. I keep getting stuck on the 1099 piece because I’ll be working 40 hrs/wk, but have been told I’m not eligible to be a W2 employee. Needless to say, no benefits whatsoever. They don’t even provide a computer or any other remote equipment for the completely remote position. Am I making a mistake? Also, can anyone chime in about being a 1099 employee?

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
