References. Dig deep into teamwork, empathy, work style, how they deal with challenges. Basically all the stuff you won’t find out until 3,6,12 months into working with them.
And have you checked vibes with the rest of the team? Gotta make sure they’ll ALL be a strong unit.
Ethnicity, gender, orientation, religion, political stance. Any of these should help tip the scales.
