Hey OP, who are you pitching to?
If client:
1. The one they want.
2. The one they should do.
3. The crazy one that shows how creative you can be.
... then delete everything in between.
I only pitch strong ideas.
Why present anything you wouldn't be super excited to make?
Creative Director 1: Yup, ultimately pitching to client but selling it internally first.
Thanks for the advice homies
OP, I was being a little flip, but overall, the fewer the better. That said, agency culture dictates this most of the time. I've been at places where the expectation with client has been set at three and so three it shall be, no bones about it. But at WK, they had no problem with one. Go sell the best idea. If they kill it, you back out with #2 or something new and maybe even better based on feedback to #1.
If you have a choice, remove as many of the "safe ones" as you can. Be confident in why you love the one you love.
Lead with it
(again, "go back out" was a luxury of being a handful of miles from Nike... not a dynamic every agency/client gets the benefit of)
