Well, one, you aren’t required to immediately report bad behavior. It’s perfectly fine to take some time to reflect and 48 hours is more than acceptable. Secondly, whether or not their superiors are qualified to deal with the issue is irrelevant. A manager’s responsibility is to address these issues. It’s literally in their training and if they aren’t taking your issue seriously, then they are part of the problem. If you feel you have been harassed, discriminated against and/or are dealing with micro-aggressions at work, report it if for no other reason than to have it documented. HR is generally useless at most companies and if you’re short on allies, it can feel intimidating, but don’t let that stop you from fighting for a more respectable and responsible work environment. Always stand up for yourself.

I choose path #1 - but waited 48 hrs to diffuse/unpack my own emotion, so I could communicate in an emotionaly distant way and explain by sharing literature instead of my hurt feelings .... but now im being dinged for it, even though my boss recognizes that the boss of the subordinate is not capable of dealing with these issues because the team is all white. I've called this straight up tone policing and that if her bosses were qualified I wouldn't have to step in because the issue was done in an open forum and I left it it 2 days to see if any course correction would happen on its own. I'm SO TIRED. But curious how others would have handled.

Been there and done that. I first went to their bosses. When it happened a second time I went to HR,l and copied their bosses. Then I applied elsewhere and took a role at another agency.
