As a media/ communications person, I don't understand what the issue is. I always say I work in advertising but on the media side - adding the rigor to the fluff the creative folks make. Let's be real, when you say you work in media...media is generally thought to be journalists. What's the big deal anyway...shall I assume you have a superiority complex??
This thread is ❤️. Our work is valuable you guys. I have saved countless of your fellow creative asses in front of clients so we can run a campaign and protected budgets for your big ideas because I believe in it too. Maybe one of these days you will realize you and your ideas cannot do it alone.
I could understand this coming from a creative, but a brand manager??? You of all people should know the importance of ALL the roles that are required to get advertising both made and seen. It's all under the same umbrella. Also, your logic is flawed. If you think they should identify as working in "media" then creatives should identify in working in "content" and nobody should be able to claim the broader term. You're an ignorant dick who doesn't understand our industry, and I hope I don't ever have to work with you.
when someone tries to make himself/herself feel superior to another group of people. lol
😐
You get IAB standard banner packages for the rest of your life. Hope your brilliant creative idea translates to a 728x90. - ❤ Media, Advertising
First time I see a Brand Manager title in our industry. What brand do you manage, OP? Because that's the job/title of a client. Media planning and placement/buying is 100% part of advertising. You work in media when you are an actual employee in one of the media channels that the media planning branch of advertising buys time or space in. Those folks are not working at a radio or tv station, or a newspaper, so no, they're not in media... Smh
I don't get this. As someone in Media Planning.
@copy2 without media support, it's not even an ad. Congratulations, you now work in PR.
This thread is all that is wrong with our industry. It has become so siloed that the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. Media isn't advertising - laughable. No rigor in media, clearly you have no idea. Just like saying digital folks aren't strategic. Clearly we need more full-service agencies and fewer liberal art majors.
@copy2 have a good time advertising to yourself without media to allow you to advertise to the audience. Smh
Ridiculous conversation. I was telling someone the other day, "I love the work, but I can't fucking stand half the people".
OP and his/her ilk are that half. Luckily the other half is worth sticking around for.
So what would you say that they work in exactly?
Just yesterday I heard someone describe media as advertising's foundational product when considered from a procurement POV. He compared it to the pie tins if we owned a pie shop. Apt.
Love it when brand managers shit on media planners. Really disturbed that brand managers have no idea what the importance of media is when they use it every day? Also it's advertising wtf?
Media
R/GA do you know what a media planner is?????
Erm....ok R/GA 1...disappointed you feel that way, let's hope we never have to collaborate on anything!
The preciousness of this is too much. Does a Facebook seller work in advertising? Their shareholders would sure say they do. Every dollar they make is from advertising.
So a "brand" manager is an account manager? That's hilarious and makes this post even more ridiculous coming from one. (Talk about made up titles...)
