With budgets and timelines getting squashed on the regular, I’m finding it more and more frustrating to have to triple bid with some projects with production budgets under 250K. Conceptually, a buy-in represents an equity partner’s contribution to the working capital of the firm.

If you imagine starting up a new firm, you and your partners would have to come out of pocket for the funds to pay salaries, rent office space, buy laptops, etc. until you got paid for (not just sold!) your first few projects. So when an equity partner buys-in, they’re writing a check that says they will pay the staff out of their own pocket if they have to.

I had my offering leader schedule a call with me to notify that I have been rated a low performer because I had 46% utilization and mediocre firm contribution scatterplot. My project scatterplots have been consistently good 5,5(top right) over the last 3 years. Do they not consider these things before rating someone as low? Feeling very low!
