When the interviewer persists on finding out your acceptable range $, how would you politely say no and not disclose?

I think the issue here is what if OP gives a range and it’s below the range they were going to offer - we don’t wanna lowball ourselves. I always emphasize that my choice in next role is a holistic approach, talk about qualitative aspects I’m searching for, and then mention they know my market value and would love their feedback. So far I’ve always gotten a range from them with that approach, esp if you’re talking to HR on a phone interview

like

Flip it around and ask them what is the range for the job(s) they’re recruiting you for.

But I agree with SA1, I would tell them what my range is. Why waste your time on talking about certain jobs with them if the salary is too low?

I agree your current pay is none of their business but why wouldn't you tell them how much you'd need to make a move?

As an effective negotiator you should set the tone for what you want first. Even if they come out first with a super low ball offer, the tone has already been set and it’ll be harder for you to come up from that. Do your research, Know your worth, and own it. When you do, there shouldn’t be a situation where they’d offer you more

like

It’s always I need it to be competitive and above my current compensation

I always give my “minimum” and say it’s dependent on many factors, including annual raises, bonuses, and other benefits (insurance, continuing education, professional licenses, etc.). But that way it gives me wiggle room to depending on how things shake out.

You have to give them an amount. Doesn’t have to be (and should not be) what you make now. Ideally, you do some market research when applying to a job to know what your acceptable range is. Then gross it up 10%.

Just tell them and ask what their range for the position is in the same line.

Hi everyone! There’s a role that I really wanted but right now it’s in LA with no opportunity to be elsewhere. At first I couldn’t move (so they passed on my application) but now I can move.

Wondering if it would be appropriate to reach out to the recruiting manager and let them know?

I’ve gotten asked how I deal with feedback in two different interviews recently. Anyone have an idea of what a good answer would be? I panicked and said something about paying close attention to redlines and proactively attempting to improve my legal writing but I’m not sure that’s what they’re looking for.

GTM moving back into consulting is a good idea in theory, but it’s like a train wreck happening in slow motion.

Sure feels like they are pushing to stand up a traditional CRE network for product sales inside of consulting … that won’t work in a service business. Some of us have seen this movie before - different theatre.

Watch how this plays out over next 6 months.

Additional Posts in Accounting Exit Opportunities

I’m 4 rounds into the interview process for an Assistant Controller position in SoCal.

For the next round, I’ll be meeting with the Controller, Accounting Manager, and 5 other junior accounting staff.

I’ll have 30 minutes to explain a month-end close task (of my choice) to the accounting team.

Also, I’ll have to analyze a random reconciliation and explain improvements that can be made.

I’m just a 2nd year manager, so I’m getting so nervous, and any insight or tips would be appreciated!

I see a lot of happy posts in this bowl where people are genuinely happy about their industry roles with good salary and great work life balance. Is anyone here willing to dm me and share about their company or refer me? I am searching for completely remote accounting/finance roles. I am also interested in Talent. I am having a hard time finding a permanent remote role. Most companies will show remote on LinkedIn but during conversation will say it’s temporary. The good ones will ask for 3 or more years of experience. Anyone has been through this or can refer me for a remote role? I have 2+ years of audit experience with CPA based in NYC. I am looking for industry roles. Salary expectations 95K and up. But I will keep an open mind given the type of benefits offered.
