tried to do post- was too tired to care so I slept in the airport for a couple hours
Whenever I can. I might leave on a Friday night so I have the weekend to explore, or come back on a Sunday night, same thing. The other thing I’ve taken to doing is buying cool souvenirs - I’ll spend a fair bit of money on something from each place I visit, art pieces etc.. I’m now mid-career and I have a collection that represents all the different places I’ve traveled.
When I worked at IBM I’d try to book a meeting on a Friday and a Monday and my manager was cool enough to let me expense the weekend. My SO often met me up for the weekend (London, Chicago, Paris etc).
Yes, I’d routinely fly out on Fri/Sat the weekend before. I’m a big college football fan so it was a great way to visit so many stadiums. My wife would come on many trips (when the weather was nice) Pro tip: flying Southwest Air with Companion Pass status gets your SO a free ticket whether you book with concur or points

I’ve spent the weekend after which is always nice. That and alt-travel to a nearby major city is fun too. I recommend both to experience/enjoy the cities you work in
I think you should do it before if you can.I had a long international trip and thought I would regret not extending to enjoy the area. I got what I think was Dengue fever halfway through the trip and had to work through it. I had the chills and pain on the flight back. I’m so glad at the end of the work I was heading home. But going before you still have energy to enjoy it!
