When you quit. I did. Survived 6 years and just didn’t have it me to see this high tide through.

I quit to move to a more general practice. I still do a little bit of M&A so the occasional ruined weekend but now where near as bad as the constant Friday night drop from Kirkland/Weil if commitment papers 🤮

So I went back to school... Know how this app is a good place to talk salary because you can't at the office and need anonimity? Apparently that now applies to grades too. Just an a professor take admin action against me for making a poll about other students' final exam scores. Wtf 🤦‍♂️
I'm not crazy, right? It's not wrong to talk grades with classmates?

What’s the best way to figure out if I’m getting paid market rate as corporate counsel for a large tech company? I’m at $150k, 7th year, handle any and all legal matters that arise in our company (a subsidiary of a global telecom company w $11 billion annual revenue) along with three other attorneys including the GC. We all work our butts off and I just don’t know how to figure out if I’m getting paid fairly for it.

I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? I’ve been in HR for 20 years and have experienced ALOT in that time, although there are always employee relations scenarios that surprise me! How much do I really need to study for this? I just can’t seem to motivate myself to do it, I’m so mentally burnt out at the end of the day from a high stress HR job, the last thing I feel like doing is studying HR!

(1/2) Who else has had to learn the hard way never to blindly trust a partner’s initial review of a matter? I was tasked with drafting a motion to challenge venue as the partner on it stated there was none as the alleged conduct occurred in a different state (our state had a very particular venue rule). Accordingly, I get to drafting, find a case I think helps, and submit for review and file. Lo and behold, I don’t even notice the rule at issue was amended such that venue does exist.

What firm has the best benefits? I know most firms don't match 401ks, but do any allow mega backdoor Roths? Heavily subsidize healthcare (either paying all or most premiums or large HSA subsidies) or gym memberships (I'm talking like 80% equinox memberships)? Do any firms have official sabbatical policies for associates? Long vacations? Actual 1800-2100 hour expectations (corporate) rather than being told you're below average at 2250?

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

Work for a firm who fudged the special bonus (not special as expected to hit hours in order to get it - was about 50 hours off). Billed 1850 cf 2000 requirement for year end bonus and looks like anyone not hitting won't get year end bonus. I'm not expecting a full bonus (and do not want to come across as entitled) but feel like deserve something for the work put in over the year, gaining recognition in legal publications across my speciality and being seconded to client. What would you do?
