If you use your own phone you should be able to do a tax write-off. Getting a new one for business purposes can be a hassle, especially if you’re just starting out and don’t necessarily have a huge pipeline. Keep in mind you have to remember it everywhere you go. A better option might me to get a extra sim and use in a phone with the capacity for both numbers or even get a google number that’s connected to your phone.
I'm pretty pragmatic and I'd rather avoid the logistics of handling two phones, so I just keep it all on the same one.
I always prefer to have a separate phone for my work, or at least a different phone line. It's important to be able to get away from work when you need to.
DEFINITELY company phone, otherwise it will drive you nuts. A lot of agents say they will always drop what they are doing if a client needs something but life's honestly too short for that, so I do my best to keep it 9-5ish when possible.
I agree about the tax write-off; it's a business expense, so an extra phone kind of pays for itself. One guy I know has a cellphone with space for two SD cards so it gets calls for either number without having to switch phones. I can see how that would be convenient because it's less phones to juggle but I don't know if there's a way to turn off the ringer for just one of the phone numbers and leave the other active. Will ask him when I get the chance. I've thought of trying VOIP because it lets you forward a web-based phone number to your real phone, but the service is a little too spotty where I live to make it practical. It would drive me crazy to have my personal phone ringing all the time so I carry two for now. That's just me though, what works for you might be different.
I use my own phone, but I recently had an additional sim card installed so I could have a second number ring to the same phone. My cell has a different area code than my area has, so this minimizes the confusion.
