I am so fascinated that people on this bowl actually throw down for these. Admittedly I’m not into in bags, but they’re SO expensive. Like… I didn’t even realize designer bags ran to this much!
Same. I truly don’t understand the craze with designer bags. The markup on it seems insane.
Honestly I love designer clothes, shoes, bags. But when I got a bit older I realized financial independence was way more important to me. We make less than men and spend our money on this stuff and it keeps us dependent. Invest your money. Make it work for you. Be free.
Amen I felt this way when I got older. I could totally afford it but why?! Given how much importance I’ve given this in the past I’m quite shocked I just don’t care for it now. I use a goyard tote for everything and hate switching it out. Makes it harder for my SO because I just don’t appreciate this kinda stuff like I did. Invest invest invest.
My husband got me one. Bless his heart. It’s still in the duster. I’ve worn it twice.

Bought one in Europe, so had significant savings, when I was 30. Became a mom at 31 so literally have not used it once since because it’s just not practical (it’s a pink classic flap with gold hardware). Maybe in 10-ish years when I no longer have to carry snacks and wipes and kid juice in my purse I’ll finally use it again
Chanel is kinda tacky now though?

I remember when my mom was looking at buying one about a decade ago at 2,000 and thought it was too expensive. The price hike is crazy!

Right, but if you’re Mom had bought it, she’d be able to make 2-3x on the resale market. That’s just how Chanel works. They tightly control supply and quality, while creating an enduring sense of luxury. No other brand does it the same.
I’m 34, make 205K and never ever would buy designer myself. I’ve had friends and my SO buy it but I can’t even imagine swiping my card for something like this 🥺 I own a house, no student loans, and still can’t get myself to do it… I love it though and think it’s beautiful but just can’t
Rising Star
No, not really a huge fan of the style. Prefer Hermes and Loewe.
It’s a treat and guilty pleasure for me. Just like how some people like cars or watches or fancy dinners, I like designer purses.
At those prices? Never. I’ll look for deals on Fashionphile or the RealReal or something.
Rising Star
I understand the appeal, but this isn’t my thing. I’d rather buy a piece of art or jewelry.

Me too, CIO1! I wear my engagement ring, my wedding band, my watch and the same necklace every day. I have a few “statement pieces” that I wear on occasion, but definitely not 50 necklaces!
One day, but not now. 26F, $85k.
I'm a huge bag lover but I have enough with my YSL for now with my pay.
Rising Star
28F, 95k income, can't afford something so expensive 🙈
My most expensive bag is $250.. maybe some day if I'm making bank but idk still if I'd get it then.. I'm always torn, a part of me thinks its pretty but part of me thinks it may not fit with my lifestyle so whats the point
Rising Star
True, but idk with my lifestyle if it makes sense. Also as I mentioned in another comment, I like to look at cost-per-use and I don't think a chanel meets that criteria for me. But agreed, treat yourself in a way that makes you happy!
Get it now if u want and can afford it, if u think it’s dumb to spend that much on it, then leave it.
Purchased my classic medium flap at age 26 105k income. Planning a Paris trip next year for my next Chanel purchase

I bought preowned Chanel’s when I was early 20s, making between 120-150k. They ranged from 2.5-5.5k tops. I have never and would never buy brand new.
The older I get the more I care about financial independence/retiring early than about designer goods (but granted I did get a lot of designer goods when I first got my job). I’m from a blessed background though, hence the spending at a young age (though I’ve changed since then). So your question depends not only on age and salary but the broader financial picture.
Me personally never because I’m not that into handbags. I carry a purse but I wear them out til they need replacing. But I think that if you can build the purchase into your current budget and want to splurge on one, go for it!!
I love my chanel bags and dgaf what anyone else thinks doesn’t think etc etc. I buy one a year and I love it. I barely use them, I try tho, but again don’t care if I do or don’t. It makes me happy being able to buy what I want. I never buy fakes or used ones. You do you!
If that makes you happy and you can afford it, go for it.

I don’t see the point, but if I did it would be vintage.
I’ll wait for my bf to buy it for me 💁🏼♀️
