Agreed. This is where you start getting comfortable no matter where you live.

5mn in investable assets and no debt. The place of residence (or even of holiday) doesn’t mean much if you have to use all your income for the upkeep.

like

Yea net investable assets works/makes sense. I get the point you were making re: place of residence, and largely agree in a simplified manner. You do have access to capital via those residences though, so at a certain level you should probably consider someone wealthy on those assets alone; I’m splitting hairs here though.

The FIRE people on here preaching no debt/pre-pay your 3% mortgage have me quick on the trigger. One (debt) is a tool to grow the other (net worth/equity) faster if used properly; sounds like you understand that.

Can you afford the things you want to purchase? Would a serious incident (lost job/sale/client) ruin you? Are you physically healthy?

5 million is my mark.. (not even a million yet .. but may be 1+ if I include my inflated home price)

Depends on the state you live in — a top 1% earner in West Virginia is not the same as a 1% earner in New York or California

Also, wealth, to me, implies a generational exchange of vast sums of money and assets (eg: trust funds, real estate, fine art, etc.). I think there’s a difference between being wealthy and being nouveau riche

Ok so when would you consider yourself being rich?

Making a lot of money relative to the average but feeling poor? Median after-tax income was ~$55,000 in 1981 and was ~$73,000 in 2020. Using a Bank of Canada inflation calculator $55,000 in 1981 is equivalent to ~$165,000 today, which would put someone in the top 10% of earners today. But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

Does anyone have advice on the hours typically worked at CFGI? I'm currently in a senior manager role with the expectation to be TMD in the next two years - however, given staffing issues and the politics of the firm, I'm looking for a switch.

In addition, as a non-audit accounting firm, do former big 4 employees working at CFGI pick back up their investments and are no longer restricted?

I look forward to any input CFGI employees may have. Thanks!
