It depends on when you started your career (I did at 24), where do you live (e.g. Chicago vs. NY or London), are you married, etc...too many variables. I barely have any savings at 27, I spend most of my paycheck everymonth on things I like, like travel, tech, living in a nice apartment with no roommates, etc. and do not stress about it, as I know I am good at what I do and will get to senior level pretty soon and will make the $$$.
I am pretty sure most people here might call this short-sighted cause of compound effect, but hey it's my life and money and I want to live it now.
Preach!! 25 with not a lot of savings but I live in NYC and like to travel, go out, and enjoy my youth. I feel like my current job will set myself up to make more money in the future, so I don’t really worry about it
Do you have student loans? Are you renting or own?
100k of wealth at 24 would strike me as a reasonable goal unless you are saddled with loans you never should have taken
Great advice KPMG 1. I did the same
I broke even on my 30th birthday and was ecstatic. Law degree in a T1 city ain’t cheap...
I’m 24 and just hit 225k (with about 100k in retirement accounts). I went to an in state Big 10 and had a full tuition merit scholarship + additional scholarships I earned that essentially paid me to go to school. I was and also fortunate to have some relatively high paying jobs in high school / college so was able to invest starting at 18.
Definitely had to put in hard work but I’ve done a ton of travel, lived in nice places, and haven’t ever felt like I’m straining myself (I don’t spend that much on material things, more experiences). Had I not gone to a public school or had the scholarships things would likely be much different.
