I was interviewed for a major tech player in the hospitality industry, had 2 interviews which for the first one the recruiter was late, and didn't confirm the interview while I emaild her to make sure I do have an interview. I have to fly cross country in a few weeks. First time flying for this job (been here a year). I’m allowed to fly business if I want (im the GC). Company isn’t killing it financially right now. Price difference is about $2,500 and I’ve done coach plenty of times on this route at my old job (law firm). Would anyone say no to business class?

In other industries exiting after a few months for a diff opp is a faux pas. Is that the same when jumping from in-house to in-house? Having difficulties getting along with my new boss and thinking of jumping ship. Ofc I will try my best to make it work but curious what the consensus is.

Well-traveled people: what seem like the best major market cities to live in with access to great in-house jobs (FAANG, adjacent companies, etc.). Some markets seem like really fun places to live but seem insanely expensive (San Fran, DC). Others seem like great comp to cost of living ratios but you seem like you’d basically be in a boring suburb (Raleigh, etc.) or have major drawbacks (arctic weather in Chicago, etc.). Maybe I’m totally off base though. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

Has anyone ever encountered the objection to being promoted based on number of years out of law school vs meritocracy ie only those that are X number of years out of school get to be Senior Counsel , AGC, DGC etc? If so, isn’t that an indirect form of age discrimination? Or is this acceptable behavior because law seniority is different and special from all other professions?

Anyone have any professional development/leadership books they’d recommend? Doesn’t have to be lawyer or in-house related specifically, just something you found helpful. I just finished Deep Work and found some aspects helpful, but others not applicable to in-house counsel life.

Has anyone explained to management why employee losses and telling the remaining people to keep doing (much) more with less is not only a bad strategy, but creates more risk for the company? Did they listen?
