When you are long options and positive, is there a % you always sell?

I scaled into SPY calls for September on the 18th and they are up about 130%. I always cut at 50% no matter what because I don’t want to be too greedy.

Nothing has spooked me into changing my mind on the trade or I’d be out, so the decision to cut winning positions is always an internal conflict of me just wanting to get it in the boat.

Any advice on how I work on this?

If you are over 100%, you are in the golden zone. Because you take your original investment off the table, maybe a bit more to lock in some profit, and then let the remainder ride if you so choose.

Thank you, that is much better than selling and logging out for the day like normal. The other idea I had was to sell calls 1 or 2 strikes higher, but i much rather take the risk off

likesmart

At a double I’d take out the original at least and maybe roll to a new strike to get some gamma back in the trade.

Thank you, catch me on the streets and lunch is on me! I sold 40% to take the risk off and everything left is my profit. I think I’ll be able to unload on other side of 435, and wait for some weakness to roll to October 440s.

On track to max out my 401k and will max my Roth IRA next month. I think I’ll have about 3k to invest by the end of this year before I can start putting contributions toward my 2022 Roth IRA. What do you guys think is the best place for that 3k? Should I max out my 401k faster? Diversify more into crypto (about 1/7 of my network)? One note is that I can’t do mega backdoor Roth.

Couple notes on my situation.

35k in equity (14k in 401k, 16k in Roth IRA, 5k I’m crypto)
11k in debt

Holiday work. Preferred AAPL short setup options:

Listing by highest risk, highest reward to more conservative.

1. Dec 18 290P
2. Jan 15 280P
3. Jan 15 290P
4. Oct 16 360/370P

I’m likely shifting to Jan 280P or 290P to catch more of the election and tax loss harvesting at year-end. I’ll pull the plug and reassess if AAPL trades north of 385.
