We’re looking for a Channel Marketing manager for our Partnerships team. Reach out to me if you’re interested/know anyone!
I’m looking into product operations roles and would love to connect with folks that work in this space to learn more about what the role entails. Any product ops folks open to a virtual coffee chat?
Remember this from pre-WFH? Ah memories.
Asked a junior associate to take the first draft of a complaint. I don't expect him to do a perfect job. But he left the jurisdiction part blank for me to fill in. As in, "The Court has jurisdiction over this matter pursuant to ______." Like you couldn't even look up the statute...? Trying not to be a jerk but.... This seems... Basic?
I’m a first year and got an offer for a lateral position. Is it normal for a firm not to offer any signing bonus for junior associates? The only “bonus” appears to be prorated covid bonus.
Done with EY interview for C++ and DB for a consultant role.
Questions were basically on oops concept memory allocations functions virtual etc.
Only few SQL queries basic
Unix script. What is fork command which I was not able to recall.
I have 1 year of development experience in php, sql, etc. I want to move away from coding and move into cloud. I'm planning on getting aws cloud practitioner certification. What are the steps after that? Will i find a job Or keep learning more?
So I have a friend who has depression, and it is taking a toll on our friendship. I care about her, but I cannot be around her for a long period of time bc she is constantly negative. Any advice??

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.
Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??

How many would agree that an associate’s protest to accepting a work assignment by a partner is insubordination?
Would you take a pay cut from biglaw market salary—working as a generalist in a secondary market—to move to NYC to work at an AmLaw 200 firm for a $215,000 salary where “the vast majority but not all” of your work would be in your desired niche practice area? This is for a mid-level associate. Originally led to believe it would have been 100% doing the desired niche practice area; post-offer it’s now “the vast majority.”
Im totally stuck at work; my boss has stopped me from growing (not allowing me to try new things like sit in on mediation, attend depos or hearings or write different pleadings) and is constantly criticizing me. I want to make myself as attractive to other firms as possible but I feel limited in my skill set since I’m limited at work. What other ways can I gain skills at work? Write articles? Join a bar association?
Im a 2nd year btw
Do you have to invite people from your office to your wedding? I work at a very small office with out 12 people total, including staff. The other associate here invited everyone in the office, and their significant others to her wedding. That's a lot of extra money I wasn't intending to spend for people I'm not particularly close to. Anyone else been in a similar situation?
Is there any point in being a star associate in your first few years (1-3)? There’s no real financial incentive at my firm. Seems like the only reward is more work and keeping up expectations. Have you seen an average associates turn out to be “stars” later on? How about lateraling and starting fresh at senior associate/5th year?
As an associate, if you connect a partner to a contact for marketing purposes, and then that partner later gets a referral because of your connection, are you entitled to any sort of credit? Feel like as an associate I help bring in cases but I’m never actually given any credit for it. Is it wrong for me to think that way?
How do you deal with a partner who won’t accept the conclusion you reached/recommendation after performing legal research and analysis because the client wants a different result/answer?
First-year looking to make a move from NY biglaw (general corp) - any tips on process? And am I giving in too early? Grateful for the experience but don’t think biglaw is for me. Want to continue to build skills but willing to give up prestige/biglaw $$ for a semblance of a life.
I am way too invested in document formatting.
When is it appropriate to jump ship as a 1st year? My section has been super slow across the firm and multiple associates have left bc of this problem. I’m worried about getting behind in experience.
Curious about the results of ATL's survey: with billable hours, how many total do you all work? https://abovethelaw.com/2019/11/are-biglaw-associates-billing-their-butts-off-for-disappointing-bonuses/
The recent most billable hours post, inspired me. What is your longest billable day? Mine was 56 hours straight with no break—and the partner was more than a jerk when I was saying no more at the 30 hour point. That was two 24 hour billable days back to back on my time sheet and on the bill, a 360 hour month, and 650 aggregated for two months. And it is one reason (of so many reasons) why this job can suck so much! At least I got a good bonus...
What is the best way to negotiate a raise, especially if male associates from IVY league schools were hired with less experience/competence for $10,000-17,500 more. Should school be a factor in comp?
An associate at my firm spends the least amount of time in the office but bills the most. Does every office have one of “these guys”?
At all future job interviews, I will be asking my prospective employer(s) what precautions they took to protect their staff and associates during the coronavirus. Who is with me?
Anyone working tomorrow to pass the time? I don’t even know what day of the week it is anymore.
