When you finally achieve FIRE, what are your options to cover health insurance? Any specific strategies to lower the health insurance cost?

This will be me in a couple of months when I retire. I am planning to keep my income low enough to qualify for a subsidy on an ACA plan. I have maneuvered enough money into savings and Roth to allow me non-taxable funds to draw from if needed until I hit Medicare in 8 years.

When you are retired, your income most likely will be lower. You can get insurance through the government or state and it’ll still be reasonable. My brother’s AGI is 43K And his monthly health insurance premiums through the state is $133 for a high deductible health plan that is eligible for an HSA. His dental insurance costs $14 per month.

Hoping we have moved towards socialized medicine by the time I retire in 10-15 years but if not I’ll use ACA policies.

Need new running shoes... what are some you’d recommend? Constraints:
- not gross looking (brooks, saucony... ew)
- good for running (i just do 5k/few times a week)
- <= $100 (a little flexible)
- prefer shoes with good energy return (bounce)

Hey everyone. Unfortunately, I was laid off this week. I was in corporate operations for a healthcare company. Hey all,
I am looking for some guidance. I am currently an RN and just feel like the healthcare system is falling apart. I currently work in home health and am thinking about what my next job choice should be, whether in nursing or something outside of healthcare. I’m feeling so unfulfilled in work and just burnt out. It could be I just need to step away from direct patient care and do something more behind the scenes. Anyone else having these thoughts or have any guidance? I appreciate the help

Has anyone on here suffered with scalp psoriasis and had success treating it? I've struggled with it for a few years, and I found that the last few months it has just gotten horrible. My scalp will start flaking the day after I wash it and I can visibly see large flakes in my hair - and I'm sure other people can too. It's getting embarassing and not sure what to do other than medication which I've heard can cause hair loss. I've tried ACV rinses and tea tree oil, but no real results.

I’ve had my nursing license for a year and 6 months now. However I went directly into the plasma industry of health care. I want to venture into a more diverse hospital role. Does anyone know of any open opportunities in NJ hospitals or practices? I feel like I’m wasting my license away not doing much nursing in this field. I am a manger where I work and make decent money but want to use my RN in a more productive way.

Has anyone used those home test kits with hydrophobic litter and test strips to test urine for glucose, blood, pH, etc.? I have a cat with kidney disease and thought I’d try one to see if it could help with monitoring. It showed there’s a small amount of blood present. I’ll be contacting my vet, but wondering if anyone has had this happen and how reliable the tests are.

Definitely spent more money in the past year with therapy costs, new medications and small ad hoc things. This was the first time I’ve had an FSA vs HSA and I definitely underestimated what to put into it. Generally I’m a healthy individual in my mid 30s but you know getting older. Any advice on how I can better gauge this?

I am 56 years old. My financial advisor has suggested that I create a charitable remainder trust as a tax planning strategy to address $1M in unrealized gains and also allow for tax deductions. I am concerned that I will out live the trust and there will be an excessive contribution to the charity rather than my heirs. While I want to be charitable, having too much go to the charity is a conern. Any suggestions ?

I am in my early 40's and have about $300K invested and some in cash. I have $70K in credit card debt (no lavish lifestyle, just 2 bouts of unemployment and some major medical expenses, even after insurance).

I live below my means, LCOL city, used car, max my 401K, save my bonuses, etc.

I am going to get a large bonus where after tax, I'll get a couple hundred thousand.

Should I prioritize pay off all credit cards or pay down half/some of the cards and use the rest for a house down payment?

Does anyone here have experience with filing a FINRA claim? Learned that an elderly family member put their entire life savings into Primerica (scam investment company) and had lost hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past 10 years in what should have been a great market. Much of the lost money is due to numerous load fees, and really ill-advised funds in energy sector. Wondering if there are courses of action this family member can take to try to recuperate some of the lost money.

Need some advice here, if it's from a tax professional or accountant even better.

My wife was doing a backdoor Roth IRA, she transfered money to her Traditional IRA and instead of transferring the money to her Roth IRA, she accidentally invested the money in her Traditional IRA.

How can she fix this? Can she sell the stocks and then transfer the cash to her Roth? Would there be any tax implications? Any special form that we need to fill out?

Thanks in advance!

Might be a stupid question (pretty new year).
Looking at the posts, it looks like maxing out the traditional 401K is the first step to FIRE strategy here. I’ve been contributing 10% (company matching up to 6%) and used the savings to invest in the stocks and crypto. Understood that maxing out 401K helps the current tax position but is it really helpful in the long term? TIA!!!
