When you get asked if you have specific experience with xyz in an interview, and you don’t, is it better to just say no and move on or to try and relate it to other things you’ve done?

Say no and then relate to relevant experience

Exactly or tell them that your responsibilities in public accounting are constantly changing and cover so many areas that you are constantly having to learn new things and adapt quickly and even if you haven’t been exposed to something specific, you can learn it quickly.

I like that! Thank you

I feel like moving from PA to industry, every interview I’ve done has had questions like this (whether it be software or specific accounting functions, compliance regulations, etc.) it usually seems like things I would pick up on pretty quickly and I don’t want them to discard me as a candidate since I don’t necessarily have that specific experience.

like

I generally say, no experience with that specific thing, but then pull in experiences that are similar or traits that make the new thing sound within my skillset. Unless it's something I'd rather not do lol.

Also not sure what kind of systems design high level questions/answers they're looking for.

Hi all, recently a recruiter from Amazon reached out for an SDE 2(2+ years of exp. required) role and I'm a recent CS grad. I gave the OA (which was extremely difficult w/ 99% cut-off) and other tasks related to the OA. A few hours back, I got a call from the recruiter that I had cleared the assessment and tasks and said that they are looking for 2+ years of exp. I said I'm open to the SDE1 role and said she'll ask her colleagues. Idk what to expect now 😥 Amazon Amazon India

Product Design Engineer, interviewing at Apple (Cupertino) and at Meta (Seattle/Redmond). Not at the offer stage yet, but I'm contemplating where I would relocate with family.
No idea about team/culture/stability differences yet.

The non-work factors I'm debating are:
1. Cost-of-living (housing!). Could probably afford a nice ~$1.25M SFH in Seattle suburbs sooner than a fair $1.5-2M near Cupertino.
2. Public School quality. Unsure private will be affordable.
3. Weather/region: activities

I am interviewing for a Strategy leadership role at a SaaS company. A bit rusty on interviews so crowdsourcing from senior folks here, what are best practices or good examples of certain behavioral questions.

1. What is your weakness? I can talk at length about strengths but unclear what weakness to state so as to not mess up my chances.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? This question is tough because there aren't very many levels above me so cannot say in an EVP role.

How do you negotiate an offer the correct way

Hi Bowlers,

Had a few job offers on the table from CPG and Tech (non-FAANG) companies for Senior Analyst type roles.

Without negotiating it seems like Tech pays more, is that true? Or can I still negotiate more with CPG companies?

I’m going crazy in Audit, I’m an A2. I think I’m going to try and transition to consulting. Would it be smarter to stay within the firm or go to a new one, and is there a half-step I should take (such as going to TAS for a year or so) before going into consulting? I just want more exposure to companies I work on than just the audit, it doesn’t feel like stuff I’ll be using in 5 years (but I’d be happy to be proven wrong on that). Business strategy/biz dev is catching my interest recently.
