No one really cares in consulting ...they'll forget about you 5min after your leave
^that is exactly what you should say, without sounding like you're blaming dropped tasks on someone else
Be honest! Wow, one bad manager and you are considering leading a career you otherwise love? A career is a marathon of experiences. I'd think twice before pulling the plug. Especially if you are an associate.
following
OP- do us all a favor and tell them the truth. Be transparent, but also phrase it appropriately / politically. This will look good on you and help your colleagues. We need leadership to hear this shit over and over, until they change company culture for the better.
The leadership is actually good, perks are good, proj is in an area I really like but the direct task mgr is terrible and I'm seeing balls dropping with my name on it even if it's not my fault, and not rally growing skills wise partly due to how that mgr is scoping and managing everything.
@IBM I'm not silly enough to think I'm not replaceable but people are pushing esp with the new perks they provided to us recently.
So if your case is the direct manager ...you can change it - let who suppose to know that your don't get along with X and you prefer not to work for him/with him
Btw - what are the new perks ?
Be as honest as you can without being Whiney or blamey - or emotional in your delivery
@P2 try 3 bad mgrs on same task for 6mos.
Also, @P2, Associate is not always junior. Depends on the firm. I'm leaving for a manager position at a different company with a much higher pay.
@A1 I'm interested in where that line is. Tempted to just stick to the growth excuse and not explain beyond that. Teammates have been unhappy too but they're newer than I am. Trying catch all the falling balls has been making me anxious and I hate watching someone unwind my progress.
That's life and you need to deal with this kind of shit and not giving up ..there are AHs every where you go ..
OP: Associate at Booz?
@BA1 Not going to specify which since you never know who is reading these but I don't think Booz Allen is the only place with Associates in that middle.
Never burn bridges. I would share what you are comfortable with and focus on the positive reasons you are leaving great opportunity for new responsibility, more flexibility in new job. They can deduce from that what you did not get in your current job without you getting negative. It is a small world after all.
OP - I hear you about the line - before you have this conversation, try to remove yourself and look at it objectively - if you were an outside observer what do you see as the issue keeping the team functioning effectively? What dynamics are happening with the client that may be contributing factors. It's a challenge when your emotions are at the surface but if you have made the decision to leave this exercise will help you as much as anybody.
