I didn't tell anyone I was interviewing because it would become the parade of partners/senior managers trying to convince me to stay for their own selfish reasons. I think I'll tell my partner and counselor right before I email HR. I work with a bunch of people who love to gossip so the word will get out pretty fast. The only thing I'm sure of is that I'm not telling my manager ever since I'm okay with burning that bridge.
Write a letter of resignation and get everything in order. Then notify direct contact partner and CC HR on the day you're giving your two weeks. Don't tell a soul before then.
Not a real problem in accounting but what if you don't get the job you interview for? They could fire you next day. You're going to burn bridges just by existing because you can't please everybody. You preserve your relationships by telling the people you care about on your way to talking to the people you have to tell. If you tell them sooner, they have to keep your secret and that's not caring about them.
What power do you need if you're leaving? If I'm trying not to burn bridges I would inform them of my issues and why I decided to leave. But like I said, I would also go to them before I even interview. It's a matter of respecting those that helped develop me and potentially helped me land whatever job I'm leaving for.
Tell your coach or relationship partner first to talk it out first ... You really want to make sure your switch is right by talking it out against someone who is likely on the opposite side of the matter
You take your complaints to those people. Once you're talking about leaving, you take that no where. There's probably 100 examples where people said they're leaving before they did and it worked out. There's 100 times that in examples where they got fucked.
Talk to your counselor first if you have a good relationship with him/her
I would tell my team first, but I report to my counselor and a mentor so I would probably talk to them before even interviewing. I would go with your gut.
@KPMG 1, why would you tell people you're leaving? Tell them your issues that they can solve. Saying you're leaving causes them to dismiss you and you lose all power.
It's hard but have to keep a tight lip. People might get their feelings hurt but you could have a lot of shit to deal with if you don't. They'll get over it.
There is no aspect of this job that I enjoy anymore. I thought about it all summer and I'm still miserable so it's time to move on. Main reason I didn't feel the need to talk it out with them.
Tell the whole world
The move is to find out your people consultant and ping them asking "for a number to reach them at". Tell them you are going to resign and go from there. Best way to C.Y.A.
If you already made your mind and accepted the offer. Feel comfortable first, it is so hard and encounter inside battle. But it is your choice to leave. Thus feel free inside, draft the resignation letter and submit to counselor and HR. Your counselor will automatically notify the leadership right away.
