When you retire or leave as a partner, how does the buy out work for your equity? Been curious if your buy in is truly recognized as your ownership and you get paid your stock worth or if I’m completely off

At what point (if at all) do prospective partners become aware of these kinds of things? Or do they all just rely on the legal and practical advice they receive from inside the firm to make these decisions?

For us we get back the latest book value of the shares we own. The shares don’t appreciate a whole lot - but we get the latest value. The profit sharing every year increases overtime as you buy more shares of course.

I am not at Big4. Non public. As context since it varies.

You get the value of your equity at the time of departure. The estimate is 2-3m in appreciation after 10 years, and if you make it to 20 years more like 10-15m on the low end. Assumes we grow over time of course - could change if we stop growing double digits every year.

like

Plus, how many people from your original partner class are going to stick around for 20 years?

like

Details vary across firms but you get back whatever you put in plus whatever the appreciation was. How else could it work?

Need to account for deferred earnings and taxes over the years which takes a chunk out.

Anyone know how it works for Bain? Typical CDC earned per year?

Similar to the numbers BCG quoted above. People don’t quote it in their comp figures though, so when you hear people talk about Bain P comp that is all cash

I don't like counting the chickens before my eggs hatch, but I do have to start thinking what happens if things do work out? I have been interviewing for a few companies and believe that I may see an offer in the next month or so.

Besides comparing base and bonus, what things should I be comparing? Both tangible and not?

Also, I have a cash balance pension plan; I know the companies I am talking with do not have that; has anyone here left a company voluntarily with that benefit?

I am invested in a Target retirement fund through my previous employers 401k plan. I am hoping to consolidate that into a IRA and invest it all into VTI (maybe 10% bonds). What are the things I should consider before making the transfer? Currently the TRF portfolio is 15% down due to market conditions so I am not sure if I should wait or do the roll over now.

Does everyone plan on staying at EY until they earn their full pension at normal retirement age of 65? This seems like a ridiculously long time to work in this profession.

If I've maxed out my TFSA, should I continue investing through an RRSP or a personal investment account?

For context, I also have a good pension. My main concern is that while the RRSP will be nice to lower my taxable income now, I'm worried when I retire I'll have to withdraw too much from both the RRSP and pension. Thoughts?

Hi! I’m doing some research on employee benefits (medical insurance, 401k, HSA/FSA, commuter benefits) and was hoping to connect with People specialists or HR professionals in the comp & benefits space. How much savings does a 40 year old realistically need to retire?
For sake of discussion, let’s assume house is paid off, need to purchase decent healthcare, you have a healthy 401k, and are single with no kids.

I’ll guess that you need at least $500,000?

Hello, EAs! I work for a small PE Consulting firm where I have been the EA to the CEO, CAO and MDs for 4 years (15 YOE).

I’m transitioning into a more ops/HR function developing our HR dept (we currently use a PEO) from scratch and will have 3 EAs reporting to me. I will be heavily involved in recruiting, benefits, payroll, 401K, training, mentoring, morale & culture & moderately involved in biz dev and marketing.

What would be an appropriate title for this role?

The ladder in EY consulting:

Analyst 1/2/3
Associate Consultant 1
Consultant 1/2
Senior Consultant 1/2
Manager 1/2/3
Senior Manager 1/2/3
Partner/Principal

In the offer letter it's mostly mentioned HR band which is different from this, HR band is just the seniority level as per the org structure just for the reference for HRs.

*Sealed Classes in Java 17*

The sealed class allows one to describe which class or interface can extend or implement this class or interface. In short, we can put restrictions on who can use this class or interface. Suppose we have Student abstract class and if we make it a sealed class and permit only ScienceStudent and CommerceStudent to extend the class, then only those classes will be able to extend the Student and other classes will get an error if they try to extend it.
