When you’re flying for a client. When do you leave to the airport? As I understand it, travel time is billable from when I leave my house until I check into the hotel. But I don’t want to leave to the airport and charge the client for waiting for the flight but I don’t want to leave too late and miss my flight either.

Billing for traveling is sketchy. There are ethics opinions that look down on this or patently call it unethical in some cases so I would check on both your firm's policies and your state bar's ethics opinions before doing it.

like

If I have to fly for a client how is that sketchy? Honest question.

They are the ones making you travel so bill every second of it. Sometimes the firm will discount this time on the back end.

Bill for all of your time. The partner will cut what they deem fit

Bill every second you spend on behalf of a client. The partner will cut it, that’s not your job.

Get your flight on time. You don’t (and in my opinion shouldn’t) bill every second of travel. I usually try and work while traveling as much as possible to avoid those huge entries that are not substantive at all. Even if it’s technically permissible, clients won’t be happy about a 4.5 entry that is travel to Chicago or whatever.

On a project right now where I am the only senior with 3 staff under me. There is a manager and director but the manager is very uninvolved and the Director is slammed - I’ve essentially been left to run the project. My issue is the 3 staff are completely MIA (Director and Manager knows) - they don’t respond to emails, Teams messages, meeting invites, etc. What would you do in this situation? Cold call them and tell them to work? Call their direct boss?

Hi Fishes
my Profile:DevOps 5 YOE
I joined a company X, checked LinkedIn and it shows 50-200 employees. Its website shows it has presence in Europe, Singapore, US. But, when I joined it is company of 40 ppl(30 Engg+10 others). I got job offer from LTI Mumbai
IDC about salary, my end goal is to learn & know end-2-end tech, work in MAANG in next 1-2 year
LTI said they would put me on bench and based on skillsets assign me random project. In 'X' no laptop/work assigned, yet less clarity on project

Currently work with finance industry. Looking for SE role in Travel/hospitality industry (I.e. EXPE, Marriott, Southwest, AA, Delta, airlines).
Some questions:

1. Which one offers job security?
2. How is it like working with them?(WLB/teammate/culture/support for career growth)
3. Which Business Unit I should avoid?(known for its horrible wlb)

4. Other advice/insight?

HYPOTHETICAL: Your divorce client found what is likely very illegal drugs in their spouse’s suitcase (they innocently borrowed the suitcase). There’s no legitimate chain of custody here for an arrest. How would you use this in the custody case? Would you simply have police pick it up from your office and fill out a report (knowing they won’t test the substance for a definitive conclusion)? The type of presumed drug exits the system within 4 days so a court ordered drug test may be useless.

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work. Seems like a waste of time to enter non-billable time just to fill in the gap but I also don’t want them to think I am not there and slacking off.
