It’s intensely subjective and a general SWAG. Higher tiers aren’t necessarily “better” than lower ones, but they offer more opportunities and more stuff to do at a higher cost. I think of it like the below. T1 (global hub): NYC, LA, SF T2 (national hub): Chicago, Seattle, DC, Boston, Philadelphia T3 (regional hub): Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Denver, Minneapolis, etc T4 (subregional hub): St. Louis, Nashville, Charlotte, Portland, New Orleans, etc T5: the rest

Ah San Diego. Did you know thats german for a whales lady parts?

Tier 1: San Francisco Tier 2: Cleveland Tier 3: Jersey City Tier 4: NYC Tier 5: Every other city in the US Tier 6: LA

I love how this ranking is so off the wall nobody is offended, just 🧐🧐

Tier 1: NYC Tier 2: Everywhere else Source: A New Yorker

JLL had an interesting breakdown of it in one of their world cities papers. Generally consider JLL more reputable than like a Forbes/other news site.

Tiers according to who?

I’ve seen a good amount of posts where when salary comes up a common question is “what tier city do you live in”. I assume NYC and LA are tier 1 but what about cities like Denver, or Austin, or Atlanta?

What is the path to a GC for a senior associate on a TN? I’ve been with my firm since college (2 years) - firm policy is that they initiate the process after a two year tenure (and provided you are senior associate rank, at minimum). Will I be able to pass the PERM evaluation? If not, would things get easier with a subsequent promotion? Or would it be best to lateral to a new firm and start the process there? Is it better to tell the new place I would prefer to push my start date to take my leave and join two weeks after (accounting for 2 weeks of notice when I get back)?
