Where do big firms hire pro bono counsel from?

Why would a big firm need pro bono counsel?

Thanks for the reply. I am wondering if it’s a feasible transition for me in the future.

Other big firms or prominent non-profits/NGOs

I work at a pretty well known NGO and would like to figure out how to transition to a pro bono counsel role in the future. I mentor a good bit of attorneys at big firms. I love the work I do but it would be cool to also make some money doing it. I wanted to see if people here knew more about these roles at big law.

I thought husch Blackwell was hiring specific pro bono counsel, but it seems uncommon to me

It’s pretty common for firms to have dedicated pro Bono counsel or coordinators. But I would think that the positions still come up relatively rarely. Running larger public interest programs would seem to be a good transition point. Start trying to establish relationships with firms now by getting their attorneys involved with your org.

Started at a new firm 5 months ago and I still don’t have a full workload and because of that my billing sucks. I’ve reached out to my supervising attorney, 2 partners, and even looped in someone from admin just to see if she knew if anyone needs help. I specifically say things like “can I take some work off your hands? I need more billable work” and I get a few small things but still behind on my total billables. One of the partners talked to me about my billing but I just feel stuck. Cont’d

Am I making enough profit for my firm?

I became a 2 year lawyer in September. I started working at my firm, a mid-sized firm practicing commercial business litigation and PI, in March of 2020. Last year I made the firm $180k from my billable hours and I was paid $85k + full health and other benefits.

This year, I'm on track to make about $150k and to make the firm about $450k from my billable hours and PI cases that I originated and settled.

Trying to do right for my firm. I'm treated well.

Is it reasonable to be expected to spend 20-30 non-billable hours a month checking your paralegal’s work? (i.e. summarizing hundreds of records and bills). The partner said he “didn’t use paralegals” at his previous firm and eating the time is an “investment in yourself.” Is this common?
