Minneapolis or KC offer a nice cost of living. Minneapolis offers a bigger art & restaurant scene, but KC is growing.

The only thing growing in KC is corn
Honestly Chicago has always been near the top of the list for me. Live in NYC so by comparison it is cheap as heck, love the 4 seasons and incredible summers, major city w a great sports vibe and seems there are good career Ops.

Keep Chicago as your office and move to the Indianapolis area. If they ever need you in Chicago it’s a fairly short drive and you can keep your higher salary

San Diego has been the absolute best life but I feel like career mobility here is a bit slower, so I’ll probably be headed to SF/Bay Area in a few years based on career opportunities.
CoL is lower in SD than the Bay Area so keep that in mind, salary may be higher but you’ll be dishing out more money to live there. Agree on career progression being better in Bay Area though

Stick with Chicago. If you’ve experienced East coast and Chi, anything southern and cheaper will feel like they lack something. West coast (anywhere decent) is hella expensive.
How's DC? IS DC suburbs expensive?

Hello from the MD burbs. Lovely here but we prefer to tax up front vs nickel and dimeing you like our neighbors down south 😊
san francisco? 😁 kidding of course. I need to get outta here too.
There’s Hot real estate markets around many tier 2 cities where you can drastically reap equity benefits if real estate is your goal. Orlando, Austin, Houston, Phoenix, few places around Tennessee and Alabama
FWIW, I actively invest and live in the Chicagoland area, and there’s plenty of low tax suburbs that have somewhat decent
Regardless of where you go, strongly consider using an fha or conventional loan to buy yourself a multifamily home and at the very least live for free
Oh I also started getting active on bigger pockets and I make an attempt to attend a local real estate meetup when I can
Atlantaaa. COL is very good and the city has a lot going on (sprawl kind of sucks). Also very doable to have a second home, whether it be at a lake, beach, or mountain. Moved to DC and miss getting a bang for my buck.
Charlotte is super cheap, clean, safe and you can't beat the weather.
It's like a shittier Richmond without any soul.
Michigan options - Detroit. Still affordable and on the rise as far City life. Grand Rapids is small town but great city features and very affordable.

Singapore - my life goal is to get a firm to transfer me there.
If that fails I’ll settle for Miami. (Also a Chicago person like OP who wants out for the same reasons)
Why Singapore? I worked in HK for 2 years and Singapore seems like a popular place mostly for expats looking to raise a family
