Where would you move (within the US) if you could move anywhere? And why there?

Currently in NY, lease is up soon, working remotely forever. Never lived anywhere else in the US.

I love nature, animals..snorkeling, horseback riding, working out gives me life.

We're moving to NC, low cost of living, low taxes, great people, lots of horses. Also, there are a lot of transplants from NY there.

Car or no car? Any family? Big city a requirement? How often do you snorkel? Ride?

No family. Don’t have a car but can consider getting one if needed. Would snorkel and ride as much as possible - both give me a ton of joy (spent a while in the Caribbean’s earlier this year, went to the beach 2-3x/week prior to work in the mornings + at least once during the weekend), rode 2x/week. Big city is not a requirement as long as there is an international airport within reasonable distance.

You'd be surprised how beautiful Northern Arkansas is. Maybe also the Carolinas?

I'd love to stay in the Bay Area, or otherwise somewhere along the Pacific Coast between Malibu and Eureka. Otherwise, somewhere in Washington state or Oregon, or somewhere like Montana, Colorado, or Wyoming. Other major cities would be NYC, Austin, or DC metros.

I’m from NY and lived in DC for awhile. I really loved it. A smaller version of all the things I loved about NY. Plus easy to get to NY when I wanted. Or anywhere on the easy coast. It really just depends on the lifestyle you want.

Snorkeling and horseback riding? Vieques Puerto Rico is your place!

If I could afford the same quality of life is move to San Diego. But realistically Colorado is probably where I'd move tomorrow to if given the opportunity.

Need a level headed take on this— what is up with pharr rd? I saw a apartment complex on that street that looks really nice on the outside and the inside but I keep reading that pharr is “”sketchy”” which doesn’t seem to jive with my impression of it. Not trying to come off stupid or sheltered, but im from Wisconsin lol so I don’t have a good gauge for such things

What's the most effective way for a small RIA to recruit FAs who have a few years experience, want to break away from large/corporate firms? I'm a $70M fee-only (commissions for insurance) independent RIA with a generous comp schedule that enables FAs to own their own book while they grow. As the owner, my focus is to help FAs succeed; as a firm, our focus is on client service and helping them succeed. I can afford a small salary, but not benefits. I'm especially interested in female FAs.

Are there any additional tax deductions that Partners can claim compared to regular employees? I hear of business owners being able to deduct so many expenses that corporate W2 employees cannot deduct. Since a partner is the owner of a firm, do they get the more expense deductions that regular employees do not get?

I’ve seen a couple posts lately with comments saying that people should not use a Roth 401k. Does the logic below capture the spirit of that concept?
1. Use trad. 401k to reduce taxable income now. Convert to trad. IRA once retired, then convert gradually to Roth IRA (ladder, SEPP, etc.) at lowest marginal tax rate
2. Use Roth IRA (and/or backdoor Roth) to take advantage of tax free growth and ability to withdraw principal early without penalty

Hi Fishies! (Is that what we are? I’m going with it)

Google Research and Insights role that got me SUPER excited and I was about to apply when I had the idea of seeing if anyone would be willing to give me a referral. I understand (and respect) that most of you Googlers on here feel that a referral is only useful if you know the person but I would be happy to jump on the phone to give you some info about me. It would mean so much! 4 YOE at a major audio steaming service

I studied computer science in school but I didn’t do well due to life coming in the way. I got poor grades but ultimately finished my degree without any internship experience.

After three months of job search, I started for 45K at a construction company as a Jr App Support. After a year I shifted in to QA for 65k and now after a year of QA, I have finally gotten a position as a software engineer for 78K base.

The imposter syndrome is finally gone!

Hang in there, hard work pays off.

This may be an unpopular opinion.

But I think it's kinda shitty that when FAANG people get laid off, everyone feels bad for them and they get so many resources to get rehired, but the same is not true for people that get laid off at smaller lesser known organizations.

Like those FAANG people will be fine, they got generous severance packages. The people who actually need help often get overlooked or are forgotten.
