Where would you move (within the US) if you could move anywhere? And why there?

Currently in NY, lease is up soon, working remotely forever. Never lived anywhere else in the US.

I love nature, animals..snorkeling, horseback riding, working out gives me life.

Colorado. CA taxes are bonkers.

like

Please stop moving here and making our state expensive. Kidding!

Atlanta. There are some really nice suburbs as well as nature surrounding it. If you want something closer to the Pacific, go with Northern California, but not San Francisco. It's at least a six hour drive further up the coast from San Francisco before you reach Oregon, and most of that coastline is beautiful. Something near Santa Rosa might be perfect if you still need a city nearby.

likefunny

If you go to Miami, it’s not old at all.

San Diego! Multiple beaches, beautiful coastline, good weather throughout the year, and good clubbing/bar scenes.

like

I am obsessed with Savannah. I am sure you can do snorkeling here, but it's not the most incredible beach you've ever seen. It's just such a pretty town and so much surrounding it. I really love it.

like

Seattle/greater Seattle area. Washington has all of the things you describe and it’s a great place to live imo. Looking at it from in inside out perspective, I can’t think of any other state that I would be interested in moving to lol

like

I've lived in multiple places in my life. The easiest places to make friends have been Chicago and Tampa. And Tampa has everything this person is looking for. It is highly underrated and beautiful

Florida?
Oregon?

like

If you want to snorkel that much then you're probably looking at Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands in the US. Other places (Texas, Mississippi) have fewer spots (Possum Kingdom State Park and Gulf Islands National Seashore, respectively). Socal is cool (Anacapa, Catalina and LaJolla) but cold.

like

Honestly if you like all of those things. LA.

like

Capital gains taxes in CA are 13%, and in some states it's 0%. And also consider income tax and property tax. I think choosing a location somewhat based on taxes is smart.

like

Colorado. I love hiking and got the opportunity to visit Garden of The Gods and hike part of Devil's Backbone in 2017. I still can't get over it and want to go back so bad. The views are gorgeous and as long as you stay hydrated the low humidity is great bc I hate being super sweaty when hiking in summertime.

like

Fort Collins is my fav. Boulder is too expensive and touristy.

Washington State

like

Check out the Gulf of México in Florida. We just came back from Naples, and I t’s gorgeous. My family lives South Florida’s and the beaches are gorgeous! Miami is a total vibe. Plenty to do in Florida and no state taxes

like

I live in Huntington Beach atm. Surfing is great. Snorkeling is a bit sparse unless you go to Catalina island, but Orange County does have horses. I also do not have a car, and don't see the need of getting one if I can help it.

We just came back from a month in Puerto Rico and the Virigin Islands. Would live on a boat if we could and travel to each island working from the boat if we could. I saw you were also in the Caribbean, perhaps that might be an option? I would also check out Oregon along the coast or just north of Marin County in California.

NYC or LA for me

like

Delaware or just across the Pennslyvainia line! Inexpensive land with spacious homes, horse country for sure, great parks and an hour for Newark DE which is HQ for many financial, chemical and healthcare companies. Access to Philly for arts and culture.

like

Hawaii 100% just left there to move to NY but wishing I could be there right now

like

Nashville or Chattanooga. They both have everything but snorkeling, but you're only 6 hours from the beach by car or a 1.5 hour flight. Plus you're in a state with no income tax. If you're in Chattanooga you're close to some great kayaking/white water rafting on the Ocoee and Fiber is a public utility.

like

Georgia for sure! Winter is never harsh, summer is so so.. it can be hot and the next min raining. Cost of living is great and there’s a lot of nature .

like

Corpus Christi, TX. The beach is there. Great food. No state tax.

like

I've been to corpus several times....I wouldn't recommend. Its highly industrial with huge refineries and chemical plants. Not too scenic for a beach town. But I do love the no state income tax!

Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.

I studied computer science in school but I didn’t do well due to life coming in the way. I got poor grades but ultimately finished my degree without any internship experience.

After three months of job search, I started for 45K at a construction company as a Jr App Support. After a year I shifted in to QA for 65k and now after a year of QA, I have finally gotten a position as a software engineer for 78K base.

The imposter syndrome is finally gone!

Hang in there, hard work pays off.

My WLB is good, work is pretty interesting.

What can I do?
