Have a primary home and a vacation home. We go to vacation home for holidays as family is near by but it is a 2 day drive to get there or a plane ride. With our pups driving has become more of the norm. We do not rent when we are not there. Thinking of buying third home about 4 hours from primary home on the coast for enjoyment. I worry about juggling 3 homes. Anyone with experience with this? Advice?

I have 2 offers to consider. What makes more sense?
Full time role with 3 weeks vacation and benefits or contract opportunity with 20k more in potential salary.

Little background, I have been a loyal employee and have only worked at 1 firm for about 6 years now. Looking for more growth and obviously money.

Need some suggestions on what to consider and any pitfalls that I should be aware of.

Thanks

Over 40 men: do you text frequently or no? Had a great date and the guy texted once after to say he had great time. He knows I am on vacation til Fri. He texted to say had a good time and (cont’d)

Go to sandals or flip flops for the pool/beach? I have high arches so usually avoid flip flops if I have to walk any distance at all, but need something cute and comfy for upcoming vacation.

Any good detox diets that good to try out and not horrroble for your body? I want to curb some sugar cravings and bad eating habits over the past year. Has anyone done one they liked? I was thinking of starting a 3 day detox then go into 7days of a white meat/fruit cleanse for a week. Then just stop eating like a complete child on holiday after those are done 😅 any advice on what helped you get past the cravings and level set would be helpful! I heard good things about keto but like options.

If buy the partners you work with regularly a holiday gift, how much do you spend? Usually I get baked goods or food items which you can’t tell the actual amount spent on. This year, though, I’d like to support local restaurants by encouraging people to order takeout—hence, giving gift cards.

How much is appropriate for a restaurant gift card from an associate to a partner?

Always been a fan of FIRE and reading about it has definitely helped my finances but I can’t help but wonder if the movement is more about lifestyle change than early retirement.

After you achieve FI,you basically have to maintain the lifestyle that got you there.

What if you want to go on a lavish vacation or buy that flatscreen TV? Are you supposed to do away with material goods entirely? I suppose you could keep working for discretionary $ and live off interest but then you’re not retired.

what difference does 109% vs. 100% utilization make at Year End? Latter basically means you took your PTO, former means you worked every minute of the year (Consulting, S&O)

Hi everyone! How did you discuss with your boss all the time you’d be needing to take off for appointments? My boss absolutely hates when people take time off. Company policy is at least a week ahead of time - she says she needs at least 2. Also when someone requests off a couple days in March then a couple days in April for example, she gets annoyed and says they are requesting too much time (even if they have plenty of PTO available).

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

Looking to leave my current role, in industry (engineering/manufacturing) and to get back into big 4 (same firm as well), however I have a 3 month holiday planned from December next year.

Are big 4 pretty lenient on allowing holidays of that length? Especially for boomerangs? Or is it better to come back after the holiday and try then? Thinking that contracting temporarily might be the way to go in the interim.

What the hell do you get male coworkers for office holiday gifts? They're fine guys and we have a great team but I wouldn't say I know them well enough to pick out individual relevant gifts for each of them. I was thinking like 5ths of whiskey & some chocolate? Or homemade cookies or something? Please give me some good ideas

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
