Update: I bought a low mileage 2019 Ram 2500 diesel.
It's a beaut!
Chevy for me but if you’re not a fanboy one way or another it’s a hard choice between the 3
I spent a good bit of time last fall comparing the 250s/2500s, coming out of a Ram 1500.
Admittedly biased pros and cons for each:
Ram pros:
Hands down nicest interior of the bunch at higher trims
Air suspension
Cummins
Ram cons:
Smallest crew cab of the bunch unless you get the mega cab
Oldest design of the bunch with the attendant safety considerations (it's a 4.5 generation, the undercarriage is old while the sheet metal is a mix of old and new)
The Cummins is substantially down on power compared to Ford and GM, even the HO Cummins that is only available in the 3500
GM pros:
IFS, depending on your use case
More power than Ram
"Allison" tranny
GM cons:
IFS, depending on use case
The interior
Ford pros:
Better interior than GM
More power than Ram
Substantially faster than Ram
Less prone to body rust than GM or Ram
Ford cons:
Most expensive of the bunch
Comparatively getting up there in years, though still a spring chicken compared to the Ram
@OP: Yeah, it's a constant cycle of upgrading and one upping by the Big 3, but the Ram part is frustrating for me. At first FCA was going to fully upgrade the HD to 5th gen in 2020...then 2021...then 2022...and now they say 2025. 🤷
I really like how the GMC Denali looks, both the exterior and the new 1500 interior that I assume the HD will get, but the lack of a pano roof is a deal breaker for the kiddos.
At this point I'm going to just bide my time for a few years until the next upgrades are out for all three and reevaluate.
ETA: From an actual usability standpoint, all three/four offerings on the market more than meet my needs, so it comes down to aesthetics and personal taste. The constant power one upmanship via the diesels doesn't actually impact me at all beyond hypothetical bragging rights.
Cummins!
It’s a hard decision between the three. Have you driven each one?
What’s your expected use of the truck?
