FWIW my parents have been driving each Honda of theirs for 10+ years. Toyotas are well made too.

Certainly, which is a factor in calculating TCO.
I suppose you could take that analysis up a notch by adding a 3-5% return on saved money up front, but I can’t imagine it’d move the needle that much.
To each their own - I’m just pointing out that it’s cost competitive and encouraging people to not immediately dismiss it due to sticker shock.
I bought a new Hyundai Santa Fe (2nd highest trim) 1.5 years ago negotiated down to $24k and got 0% interest for 4 years and I’ve been pretty pleased.
Toyota or Honda pay cash for one that’s 5 years old. It’ll last a lifetime and all you’ll need is routine maintenance

In general anything from Asia is lowest operating cost and most reliable, and in general anything from Germany is highest cost and most fun to drive. My pendulum swings between Germany and Japan on every car. Just sold a ten year old, reliable Infiniti which was very problem free for a BMW and loving it but know there will be a premium to the fun.
