Which career path for a wife is best for those working in banking or consulting? Divorce rates are higher I hear with those woman who are just as career oriented as their husbands. Thoughts?

As a man I cannot answer this question but as a husband, screw those people whose egos can’t put up with career-oriented partners. Choose a career path that makes you happy and fulfilled and find a significant other who supports you

Are you a time traveler from the 1950s or something? What kind of question is this in 2021?? Divorce rates are higher for men with egos small enough not to accept an equally career-oriented partner.

likefunnysmart

Good points but I noticed there is less patience and reconciliation efforts than our previous generation. We are so quick to leave or throw in the towel. This in turn can have an impact on both parties and severe impact on the children.

Banker married to banker here. Works fine for us. Majority of our coworkers are men with stay at home wives. That said, it should be individual based on the wife’s personality and interests and the couple dynamic. There’s no blanket right answer here.

Divorce rates are higher because those career oriented women don’t depend on their spouse for financial support and aren’t as incentivized to stay in an unhappy marriage.

like

I’ve worked with a lot of bankers who have stay at home partners and a lot of bankers who have banking spouses. Notwithstanding the woman’s opinion on the situation (which is important!!), I’d argue that stay at home is a worse arrangement as when you’re making banking income you typically have a nanny anyway and a lot of men get very resentful very quickly that their wives are spending so much money. Though as a woman in banking I think this is a pretty weird line of questioning and your risk of divorce is determined by how you and your future partner interact with eachother as individuals and you shouldn’t really generalize

like

Be respectful of women and their choices. A happily married couple makes the best role models for their children. The thought that someone else should sacrifice their career for you is simply backwards and disrespectful.

like

The best career path for a wife is to find a husband who supports her career goals no matter what those goals are and to divorce a husband who doesn't build her up personally and professionally so she can find a new one who does. Hope this helps!

It's about what YOU want. If you let your banking job define YOUR personality...then there's a good chance that no matter what career your spouse has, you will soon want bigger better younger etc etc. The job eats empty souls.

Well whether OP is a sexist man seeking wife or a sexist marriage counselor I hope this thread made them realize women are people and not accessories to a man’s life

From reading comments, and then the original question again, OP seems to be trying to find a way to save their marriage and concede to let wife find a job. I could be wrong but the comments are telling

I don't think it changes my answer, at least. The best career for a wife is whatever she wants and the question is a huge red flag about the health of the marriage.

OP, after reading our comments are you going to share your current situation and takeaways?

I feel like my brain works like a consultant, and I would enjoy consulting, but I also looove all things finance & investing. While I don’t necessarily have extensive experience in the field (most of what I know is self taught, my major is accounting), I want to get involved in it somehow and learn more.

I currently work in audit, I’m not sure what exit opportunities are an option for me for the investing/finance industry. Feel like chances are are slim. Any advice?

Wife told me the other day, after a 70 hour week, that it's easier to think of herself as a single parent. That way she's less angry at my job or firm. I hate that she feels that way. 3 yrs & 4 mths.

Hey guys… I’m a case worker in child safety and I’m someone who loves being outdoors/dies at a desk all day. I’m hoping to organise that at least once a week I can go to a cafe and catch up on all my case notes that need to go into the system.
So far the only reason I’ve been told no is that “if you do then everyone will want to and then no one will be in the office” … how can I convince them that I work better out of the office and get this freedom & mental break for myself?

Hi all,
Need an advice. I am confused between doing masters or learn tech stack and increase experience and salary.
*My primary goal is to earn more.*
If masters I have to do in US or UK, so GRE, GMAT.
If for learning and tech experience I can learn tech stacks.
But I am confused between this.
Could you please tell or suggest what would be a better choice? Is doing masters in US or UK is a better ROI or be in India and gain exp and earn more by switching?
Currently I am a Java developer.
TIA

Hi all! I spent 8 years working in the veterinary field before deciding to go back to school to get a degree in communication media. I graduated in 2020 and I got a job with a national franchise (corporate) less than a year after graduating. The role was for a Brand Manager and it transitioned to Communication Manager about 7 months in. The company was toxic, disorganized, had no idea what they were doing. *cont in comments*

Hi, I'm an artist with 5 years of experience in the game developmentindustry.

After interview sessions, it comes to salary negotiation. To my surprise, the salary offer is below industry average, even more like junior-level salary.

Though my experience includes team leadership and I have described in detail how I could contribute to the company, the interviewer raised the offer, adding $300 only, still in junior salary range.

What does it really mean, and how do I win the negotiation?

TIA.

My first therapy appointment tomorrow! I’ve never dealt with depression before having my second kid and my PPD was/is rough! In my early 30s, single and realizing i barely have friends. Technically i have a bunch of friends all over the country (thanks to me moving around quite a bit) but not where I live so i don't see them as often. I shed a few so called friends post-pandemic who were flakey, some got married and spend most of their time with their families. I have like 2 people to invite for my birthday. Is that natural for 30s to have little friends or do i need to re-evaluate my life?
