All schools in Nova are fine. Fredericksburg isn’t nova tho

Thanks for your feedback. We are not looking in Nova due to our small budget.
You ever thought of maryland?

No because my husband works in Woodbridge, so that would be a long commute for him.
Yikes, you're not going to her a good school district for 300k. Maybe consider renting in Arlington while the kids are in school, then buy as empty nesters.
My husband and I rent a townhouse in Arlington for 2,600.
One child.
Plenty of areas in South Arlington (eg. off Columbia Pike, in Fairlington) can get you a townhouse for that price. Go to Springfield or Franconia and you can get something under $2k.
Bought out in Stafford it's been great. Little ones like their schools. Still more expensive than I was hoping though. Slugging in was great up until the rona. Getting into DC isn't bad but we definitely don't plan on staying out here forever.

Do you mean Stafford? My assumption is Stafford > Fredericksburg, but take a look at Zillow’s ranking of the schools for the houses you’re looking at in both cities. It shows Elm through High School. It’s not a perfect ranking, but gives you something.
Also, why not Lorton or Woodbridge?

Thanks GH1, that was my initial understanding
