Which company would you choose between ClearView and Guidehouse considering that my goal is to stay 2-3 years in consulting and exit to business development/corporate development in biotech/pharma?

I agree with the argument about growth and exit opps - but IMO the trade-off is not worth it. The firm’s culture issues have become front and center over the past year and are seriously eroding employee morale and trust in management The trend at ClearView does not look good and you might be stepping into a complete dumpster fire if starting now I’d look elsewhere and work to improve your skills at a different place where it is actually possible to balance professional development and mental health Feel free to DM if you need more “color”

Looking for elsewhere after EOY?

Hot take: getting a BD/Corp dev job will be tough / very competitive coming out of both firms. If that’s what you really want to get, I would target looking at very junior level postings (M/SM) as anything higher than D will probably ask for deal sheet / transaction experience which you probably won’t get at either firm.

Guidehouse LS used to be Navigant, which acquired Easton Associates (one of the top boutiques). The mergers and name changes have diluted brand equity - but the team itself at Guidehouse is great. Especially compared to ClearView - which is just a hot mess

funny

Tier of exits of Guidehouse a bit below CV from what I’ve seen. 2-3 years at CV and you should be able to land SM-AD in BD/Corp dev big pharma (director would be a bit of a send).

No one gets AD exit from clearview (or any LS firm) with 2 YOE. Maybe 3 if you have a PhD. M / SM is much more realistic after 2-3 years.

In line with others here that the consistent impression of the firm from many many posts is that if you want a more favorable exit then ClearView is the way to go, but you will meaningfully pay for that opportunity in blood, sweat, and many tears through exhaustion. So it comes down to what your priorities and tolerance are. Also, I'd caveat the above post regarding SM to AD. If you're coming from a BSc background them M or MAYBE SM is possible in that time (starting at the Analyst level) while if you join as a consultant with a PhD/MD/MBA background you may have a solid shot at SM - AD in those 2 - 3 years, with D being a matter of pure luck at some smaller firm.

Applying to industry after 2 yrs in a data-heavy strategy consulting role, and running into an odd problem: people are automatically putting me into a "heavy-quant" box and becoming apprehensive of my fit for a business role (strategy, FP&A, etc). 2 Qs: 1. Does this sound plausible, or am I overthinking based on a small sample? 2. How would you highlight your fit/interest in moderately quantitative roles? Consultants generally like my "Context> result> personal contribution" format of bullets

Working with an (external) headhunter for a role, and just found out they want me to proceed to the second round of interviews. I had told the headhunter after the first round that I was interested in moving forward (although I did express some concerns I had) but after thinking about it, I’ve decided I’m not interested in the role. Does it look bad to go back on my word and drop out of the process now?

I’m 3 years into strategy consulting (eg, market entry, commercial DDs, market growth, etc) and I’m curious what industry exit opportunities are out there beyond joining an in-house Strategy team. I don’t have any real technical skills beyond ppt and model making. I’m great with people and know how to structure strategy projects. I’m having a hard time visualizing where my skills fit in industry.

I don't know why this is the case and maybe it's just my agency but it seems like the people who are most eager to send out "internal trend email digests" be it cultural trends, social media changes, creative inspiration or whatever always seem to be people who are grossly failing in the primary role they were hired for.
