I always told the kids that their teachers get together in the faculty room and purposely schedule tests for the same day...and that we had a wall-mounted tote board to set up and track that we always schedule them on the same day!
whenever i feel like it :P
Me, I never give them on Monday. Past that, its whenever the unit ends.
I don’t have the luxury of waiting on specific days to give tests based on the pacing of our curriculum. So I just give tests whenever the unit ends or a natural break occurs in the curriculum. Whatever day it lands on, they just need to be ready. I do give a calendar beforehand so they can put on their calendar and know ahead of time to start planning. I also give reviews out a couple class periods ahead so they have time to prepare.
I’ll second that! They happen when they happen (end of chapter/unit). I tell them that life doesn’t skip a day so neither do I.
I will actually give a test any day of the week! LOL, but I do TRY not to give them a Friday before a break because I assume most teachers do that (so I give mine on Thursday)
Statistically speaking I understand that research shows that students score lower on tests that are given on Mondays and Fridays, so I typically try to test on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
Tuesday through Thursday. It does make a difference.
I agree, i do a lot of Tuesday or Wednesday tests. My students like that because then my test is the only one they have to study for on a Mon or tues night
If you are able to plan when to give a test, try giving it on a Thursday, then you can review the test on Friday.
Whenever we finish a unit. But on Friday there is usually an athletic event or two going on so many students will miss it and I'll have to plan for makeup exams and such. If I'm given enough warning on t&e schedule I'll make those kind of days an extra review day.
Thursdays lately. Whenever I covered the material enough to check their progress. Friday before breaks are poor attendance days. It’s reserved for a make up day.
We have shorter classes on Fridays so I skip that day unless the unit lends itself to a shorter test. I think Mondays are evil, but Tues, Wed and Thurs re fair game. I do it when it fits best on one of those days.
