Which do you prefer- Ask for permission or ask for forgiveness? Just started a new project and they haven't laid out travel expectations so I'm tryna milk it for as long as possible.

Forgiveness

like

Why are you trying to get away with? If it is something like taking the 3pm flight instead of the 6pm flight regularly? If you are a junior person and I find out that you were doing that then I would be pissed and while you can ask for forgiveness it may leave a bad impression

like

Why not quit now before the project starts!

like

It's better to ask for forgiveness than beg for permission.

like

I agree with m1. I pretty much always grant travel requests and am happy the person asked but get annoyed at people who don't ask.

like

In a vacuum, ask for forgiveness. But, in this scenario, logic would doc tact you just ask what the expectations are...

like

OP: Yeah basically my living situation is unique. I'm based in one office but primarily reside elsewhere. Last project it wasn't an issue. This one, people live closer, and can get to the office super early on Mondays. I'll admit I'm experiencing apathy because I plan on quitting within the next few months anyway.

like

Wow, dial it back, M1. I agree that it is taking advantage of the firm, but this situation doesn't seem that severe.

like

^ *logic would dictate that you

This is the risk you take wren you lie to the company about where you live. Accenture has a requirement that you live within X miles from your home office. Your game is being found out, now you live with the consequences.

Gotta cash out before the next opportunity is ready.

Lol I was wondering if Managers on here are always so chipper.

M here, I'm very lenient when it comes to travel... that being said, I'd much rather you ask permission. If someone is getting in at ridiculously late hours or leaving ridiculously early (by normal project standards), when there's no reason to, and didn't bother to ask what the expectations were, I'd be pissed and less likely to be flexible or make your case to the partner / client regarding commute. Also, if your office location isn't anywhere near where you live, I'd be less likely to accommodate you.

Hi 🐠, need some advice. Was told by my manager that time doing research (for info related to my client) is not client billable and has to be charged to the overhead code. This strikes me as fundamentally wrong, esp bc this is a flat rate project so the hours will just affect my utilization / internal metrics, not how much the client is billed. I asked for a non-billable code that counts towards utilization but was told my utilization is fine even though I’d be billing <40hrs & to use OH code

I took a transformation lead role in industry a year go. However, my role is de facto program manager lead per internal job title. However, I wear multiple hats. How do I position this experience for new opportunities? I know the stigma that comes with PMO roles so I’m worried about exit ops? Looking for advice

I just inherited someone and made him a Creative Project Manager. He is naturally a good PM (but never did it officially), and is a great people person, but doesn't have any professional experience as a CPM. Do you have any recommendations on any online trainings, seminars, podcasts, whatever, that I can pass along to him? TIA.
