I am looking for two new teachers (0-5 years) who would be interested in participating in a study I am doing as a Doctoral Candidate at Baylor. The study looks to understand the experiences women working in the field of education have had that triggered shame and explore their resilience. If you are interested, click the link below to get started: bit.ly/ShameResilienceStudy

Hi, I see no one has responded to your question yet, so I'm going to even though I don't teach high school. I teach middle school English and I have found that using CommonLit and Readworks paired texts are great for hitting certain standards. But, I also like to give them assignments that are more creative, such as blogging or journaling. So, giving them different options along with the assignments that have to be done. I have a lot of students that need to have that schedule on Google Classroom, but I have other ones that want to have more freedom in their writing. It is a tough time and I think having an ability to express oneself privately is really good for kids- for all of us! Not all of them like to do this of course, haha. Some of them don't do anything I ask them to do without a lot of begging and pleading! Of course, I am teaching middle school. I always keep that in mind😂
thanks for the thoughtful response! Yes, i want to give my students choices in the hopes that i can entice them to do something worthwhile during this.
Not my heavily thought out., scafolded masterpieces. The digital notebook I created. No, this was the winner, read the book , take the quiz
I have been using the podcast Serial (season 1) I have about 67% participating. The students who are participating, love it! I give 3 days per episode.
You are very welcome. I'm sure whatever you decide to offer them will be wonderful and worthwhile. All the best to you. 😃
I teach junior high. I have been doing daily response journal entries. For April we did a theme of gratitude. Also I have been using choice boards. I did two weeks of Civil Rights passages and they had to respond in writing. Then I did two weeks of famous activists. Next week they are reading a story from Scholastic Scope and will have 9 tasks to choose from! They will choose 5 of them. The last assignment they will do is a slide show reflecting about the pandemic. All of it translates well into paper packets for those who don’t have internet access or a computer. My students are learning new information and they have a choice about what they want to focus on.
for me, independent (choice) reading/response journals
I made choice learning boards, each with 9 different tasks. Students were to choose 3 activities from each board. The activities were mostly about writing or making connections.
Photo essays, vocabulary, & reading assignments with response questions.
