Moved from consulting to industry early this year but into reagents vs core life sciences. I've been working for 6 months as a recruiting temp. My original contract was dec-march. Then we mutually extended it when I had another offer for March. They then offered me full-time but I was interested in another role in another department. They agreed and I'm going to be working the 'temp to hire' role in the new department.

Am I allowed to ask for a new hourly rate for this 'new' role? I took the original rate due to covid necessity but would have asked for more if it was temp-to-hire.

I went in-house at year 4 — now at year 5. I feel like my growth has stunted and I’m not learning and growing my skill set. I don’t think I was very seasoned when I went in-house, was just very burnt out from big law. Can I go back to firm life to gain more skills then go back? WLB and everything else is great. Just don’t feel like I’m growing…!

How are the paralegals in your department organized/structured? What are the pros and cons? We’re exploring the idea of a paralegal center of excellence. Currently paralegals are reporting to the lawyers they support. The disadvantages are that the paralegals are siloed, so there’s no back-up if they’re out and they don’t have anyone who can support them if their work gets too busy. Additionally, the lawyers have a hard time accurately evaluating them since they can’t easily compare their work.
