Which is better: a client that knows exactly what she wants or a client that has no clue?

Neither, both are troublesome... the best client is one that knows only enough to know they need you

like

No clue.

What S& said. Currently 1.5 months into a project and the client just changed direction on us for the 3rd time.

like

Neither! The best is one who shuts up and blindly let's you lead.

like

Best is when the SM/ partner can convince the client what they actually want and smoothly push the proposal on the table !

like

One that has no clue but the ability to sign checks. Clueless middlemen are dangerous. #treadcarefully

And I'm on two projects right now, where each client is on opposite ends of the spectrum. Both suck.

I'm with ACN1 it's the one who lets you do your job and provides valuable input to avoid the org politics and hurdles.

Exactly what she wants. Clueless clients are trouble for everyone (client included) despite high revenues.

So, a spot I made (concept to completion) got shelved due to COVID forcing the client’s marketing plan to change. During that time, my partner and I were laid off. Recently, the spot aired, but the agency credits a different team for the work – me, my parter, and my CDs aren’t listed. Do I ask the agency to correct it? Just throw it in my book with explanation? Just take the L and chalk it up to that being how the industry is?

What about legal work is currently causing your mental health struggles? Mine’s the hours, which is not normally my issue. I billed 230 for June and July and am already at 145 for August. My ability to focus is getting worse by the day, so I’m working longer to bill the same hours and have had to pull a couple all nighters. I burst into tears this morning when a client changed plans and now wants a major project by end of month, on top of my other deadlines next week... I just want to sleep.

Need some advice. I am super burnt out due to work, covid, etc. My firm offers a 3month internal rotation that is very popular - you keep full pay while having predictable hours & no client work. I’ve always been interested in it and the timing seems right. My main Partner is NOT supportive and says I should take medical leave instead or drop to part-time. He doesn’t have a project for me to work on but doesn’t want me doing anything else. Should I take the role at a risk to this relationship?

Clients with toxic cultures: how have you dealt with them? We have a compliance client with a serious culture issue- they regularly throw each other and our team under the proverbial bus, throwing escalations around etc. I am one of the junior partners and suggested having an open dialogue with our C-suite contact to discuss constructive ways of working, at the very least… but the senior partner has vetoed it. Our team morale is pretty bad and we’ve had a couple of people leave because of it.

Hey all, I’ve recently joined EY consulting from another Big 4 and have noticed there’s no discipline (at least in my team) around codes and charging time. People either charge a standard 7 hrs or some will charge time spent on internal activities to their client code. I was told that “the last person to charge their actual hours worked was promptly booted off the project”. Just wondering: 1) Is this a general cultural point accross all Consulting teams? Will challengin this get me in trouble?

How do you incorporate agile when clients have a fixed deliverable/milestone driven SOW? For example, you say you’re going to build a product as part of your pitch to win the project. But if user testing and feedback requires you to change that product (via iterative/testing methodology), clients someone’s have a problem understanding that. How do you mitigate it?

Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!
