Insurance Defense Associate new to group. Just finished first year on the defense side after 6 years on the Plaintiff side, joined 3 weeks before lockdown. WFH with 6 and 2 year old. While billing 2k in a year with kids at home all day is nuts, you will not get better balance in a small pltff firm. Small firm partners are allergic to WFH, and can't afford to be flexible with when an associate gets to their work. The support of a larger firm is what has kept me alive this past year.

Honest discussion about burn out: it is with you for the long run.
I burnt out at my last job and the job before that and now I’m at a really good firm that has no set billable hours and a really manageable workload, but it’s still difficult to get any work done. It will take a long time to fully recover from burn out.

I have terrible executive function disorder and ADHD that is slowly crippling me. Been medicated, but need more than that. What resources would you recommend to find a good counselor/therapist in the DMV area?

Been feeling really down, anxious, and drained physically. How can I recharge? Outdoor activities set off severe anxiety. Exercise is difficult for me as getting my heart rate high triggers anxiety as well. Any tips on this? I know I need to return to therapy as well but can’t seem to find available ones where I live and the cost factor too

I am realising that “being happy at work” is a myth, and the whole love what you do stuff is also BS. Novelty wears off eventually. I don’t want to be negative but I feel I need to change something somewhere.

I’ve been in consulting for 5 years and I feel like I’ve given up any hopes of building a career. The work I do is so anxiety-inducing to the point where I just procrastinate and fail everything. I used to be ambitious but no career or job prospect excites me anymore. I have no real goals. Does anyone else feel this way?

After months of depression and suicidal thoughts, I had a big realization that pulled me out of it.. that I’m alone in the world and I can’t rely on anyone else but myself. As a chronic people pleaser, this was liberating.

I am so busy recently and can’t meet some deadlines. One of which is an overseas internal deadline. My manager ask me to talk to the overseas team and have a “nice and proper” reason. I am already out of energy to work and not to mention creating a reason. I just say we need more time and will delay 1 day. My manager said “busy is not an excuse”. I am quite unhappy and frustrated. I know busy doesn’t mean you can fail deadline but what do you want. Just 1 more day…
