Which offer would you take?

Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But I’m hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! I’d Rather get a small raise than none at all.

I worry about the long term - 5+ years - trajectory of Meta, along with the moral challenges of working there. I'd take the opportunity to get into Google, and keep my eyes open once I'm there for a chance to get consumer facing.

Slalom: I get your viewpoint. If those are your beliefs, you should completely stand by them. But you need to start blaming the people, and not the messenger (quite literally).
The world was more violent in the previous centuries relative to now. Humans can always be creative in finding ways to communicate and organise, social media or not. Blame the people. Don’t take the easy way out.
Google sounds more interesting and more chill
Thanks for your response :)
Optimize for what you want to do. The growth trajectory of a career in Product Analytics / Growth Strategy is significantly higher than Internal Product Operations (Support).
Product Operations is the support team at Tech companies. They get feedback from people, triage issues and create a report and then you need to convince Product teams to actually change Product features, but typically have very little influence in the organization.
Google’s also known for being a place where it’s much harder to get promoted and everything is slower in general.
Yes, the Meta role seems more product adjacent which I think means a bit more influence/visibility. Appreciate your perspective 🙏
I myself would go for the Google gig, primarily because I’m not sure what Meta’s “faster career growth” quantitatively means. What’s the expected TC for both in 5 years?
Meta’s culture has become a bit harsher, but I can’t say the same isn’t true for Google.
I’d take the higher TC + better WLB at Google. I can see why working on internal tools feels back office-y, but in the grand scheme of things, all strategy & ops roles are back office in the eyes of the engineers/data scientists clearing the $500k comp packages. Us justifying our client impact will be like operations support in banking and consulting trying to justify the irreplaceability of their support, despite their relative replaceability. Same case here, though I recognize it’s far from a perfect analogy.
Regardless, higher TC, better WLB, if your psyche really can’t handle working on an internal product vs customer facing products, then you always have the option to switch to something else. Don’t let the ego do the talking though, Google’s valuing the role at ~$300k for a reason.
Edit: reiterating that I’m saying this until we get quantitative figures for the higher trajectory growth at Meta. I can’t recommend a case for Meta until we have an idea of the numbers
OP - do you have technical background/experience? Looking for similar opportunities at both places

Google - the analytics aspect of the role will open up more exit opportunities than taking an ops title. Plus the stock is a safer bet for now
Coach
Agreed but FBs future is a bit more uncertain on whether the metaverse bet will pay off whereas Google is a bit more solidified. That behind said - FB would have higher upside if it all works out

Average promotion path at meta is every two years, but very much depends on level. Harder to go from say, M2 to D1 than IC4 to IC5.
What is the TC breakdown? How many YOE?
It’s not a fad if you are successful at doing it lol
Let’s say it’s not considered work experience then I’d be getting L5 offers with 1YoE, meaning OP can get L6. Which is my point
Mentor
Google. Better WLB balance and culture.
What level is meta and what city
That’s actually really good for meta. I got an IC5 offer with TC 200 for a tier 2 city
What’s general increment for meta and google during non promotion years?
Both sound awesome
As an EM I would not take $250K…
How do you perfectly line up all these offers? I feel like all offers I’ve ever received have an expiration date
None - both companies is Toxic
You’ll get better wlb at Google but high stacking refreshers + quick promos will outpace your google comp quickly if you value that more

Doesn’t it depend on team? Im at meta now and my WLB is exceptional
Google pays more with less risk…
Also think of facebook’s perception 10 years down the line. Getting teenagers addicted to their screens and causing all kinds of mental health issues.
