How long can you stay in a service line before it becomes difficult to transfer to another? Currently I'm a SA working in advisory, but I'm hoping to transfer to more of a traditional consulting role. I have discussed this with leadership in the past, but there has been a lack of resources in my current service line. I am hoping not to switch companies, but when should I start looking else where, before I become pigeon holed in my current service line?

I am an HR Manager of a manufacturing facility of 80-100 employees. I do not have a corporate HR department or director to lean on. I am it for the HR function of this company. I also am in charge of safety which I have not been able to do so now I have a safety coordinator reporting to me. I only make 62k after an increase I received in March. When I took the position I knew it was underpaid however I only had 4 years HR experience, but what salary would be fair for this sort of position?

Anyone been brave enough to ask why a position was open? And if so did that effect the rest of the interview or their decision?

I recently accepted a position in the ICU, but the interviewer described that they're "like a family" (yikes) and how they have travel nurses renew their contract for a year cause it's a great unit to work. The workload only increases.The district also made us put in a “no strike” clause in our contract.

Time to vent... So far this year, 14 staff members have resigned from my district (myself included). I'm in a small, rural, K-12 district so there aren't many of us to begin with. In my 5 years here there have been 4 principals and another new one coming next year. Our board "doesn't know how to keep people here" yet they refuse to pay more when the pay is significantly higher in every district around us (also small districts.) It's a never ending cycle and I feel terrible for the kids.

I’ve often thought about what my ideal school would look like. 4 academic days, 9-5. Day 5 would be Teacher planning and meeting, students would have experiential learning. What about yours?

I got into counseling to make a difference in students lives, but I feel like I am doing more side jobs every day (test coordinator, ELL case load manager, etc). Is it just me?

We are a small school. About 100 students per grade level from K-12. Our 8th grade team has seven kids that failed all four core classes all year long. There are another 6 or 7 that failed 2 or 3 core classes all year. Research says that retention doesn’t help after third grade. BUT! How can we move students to high school math or English with an entire year missing? Science? Social Studies? Not as important, but Math and ELA? Pivotal in their growth. What is the “right” answer? Opinions?
