Which PR agency has the best D&I programs in New York? I hear Padilla and Golin are up there but would like to understand what agencies are genuinely committed to D&I. Not just for awards 🙄

When you say genuinely committed, I think you need to meet some people running the firms. The D&I programs are important, but what will matter more, I think, is senior managers whom you can talk to about diversity, who listen when you bring up suggestions who invite ideas about how to create space in teams and workflow for different styles and perspectives and who help you develop as a professional regardless of whether you also check a diversity box. At the end of the day, pick a manager rather than a program

Can I ask what you’re looking for specifically when it comes to D&I? I’m a woc who has worked at a number of large agencies in New York. If you’re asking what I think you are, expect to be consistently disappointed. Your best bet is to go to outside events held by orgs such as colorcomm, minorities in media, NABJ etc and meet people who actually work at the agencies and can give you a real view of what it’s like to work there.

Edelman 2 and Edelman 3, I 100% agree with you. Diversity and inclusion should not solely be driven by clients. It should be driven because it’s the right thing to do for the growth of the organization and health of employees.

also, weber shandwick is quite yt. yes, they’ve been hiring some non-yt folks, but i think the agency misses the spot on inclusion. we’re def thrown under the bus. we always have to outperform our yt / yt-passing peers. so many new senior hires recently & i can count how many of them are non-yt on one hand. & don’t give me “we hire latinx” when most of them are yt latinx. yes. there’s a difference.

Interesting! Would you say Weber’s programs are more face value than tangible, measurable impact? Are they over indexing on one marginalized community vs. driving inclusion for diverse communities?
