Which states have the easiest UBE score transfer process? I’ve noticed a wide variance in requirements, and figured it would be nice to get a thread going for anyone trying to get licensed in multiple states.

Admitted in NY, in middle of getting admitted in Maryland via UBE waiver. As states go it seems pretty easy, it’s $750 total (states range from $500-1200 generally), there’s an open book state specific exam that I need to take but people say it’s very easy. One awesome thing is that MD doesn’t have any CLE requirements so upkeep is very easy there (I think a $200 fee every two years). One annoying thing that may be in other states too: for NY I had to send forms to my legal employers and my references for them to fill out, send back to me, and me to submit. For MD they send their own forms to my references and employers so I feel bad that those people have to fill out yet another form for me, though it’s much shorter than the NY forms

I was told it typically takes around 6 months to be admitted. Some people say the character and fitness review is annoying but I haven’t found that so far

I’m admitted in New York and Massachusetts. Both UBE jurisdictions. NY was my original jurisdiction that I sat for the UBE in and was admitted there first just over three years ago, then I applied to MA in the month exactly three years after I sat for the UBE, and was admitted there earlier this year.

Assuming you have a high enough UBE score to waive into the other UBE jurisdiction(s), then you should be ok provided that you’re within the timeframe allowed for by the state you want to transfer a UBE score to, which varies. For MA, its three years from the month you sat for the UBE so I was cutting it close and had about a week and a half to spare. In terms of the actual requirements, most likely some additional recommendation letters and possibly an open book, state-specific multiple choice exam that you take online.

Me and my husband were planning to start trying to have a baby from next month. With this COViD-19 situation right now we are thinking of we should wait for few more months and see if the situation gets under control. Data related to CoViD -19 in pregnant women and new burns is very limited. Plus hospital visit during pregnancy and having family around to help out may be challenging if CoViD -19 lingers longer than expected. I am 34 and hubby is 37 body clock is ticking as well - tough decision.

Do any of my fellow criminal defense attorneys feel like they were in a completely different profession than 98% of the attorneys that you know who do civil or transactional work? I read the posts about billable hours and the cost of litigation etc... I am here getting flat fees that range anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars. I am constantly chasing the bad payers on a payment plan but it seems 1000 times better than a billable hour.

Can anyone recommend an app or software for tracking billable hours to make it easier to put together and submit timesheets? I work for a small firm and all of our billing/invoicing is done manually. Every couple of weeks I go through my notes to type up my timesheets and I’m wondering if there’s an app that can record my time as I work and then put that all together categorized by client to submit for invoicing. I don’t need to note how much a particular client pays per hour.

Any Virginia landlord tenant attorneys here? We are on a month to month lease with our apartment and I sent an email indicating we would likely be terminating at the end of August, on June 24. Can I argue that is sufficient to qualify as notice? I think the word “likely” may kill me but I indicated that we are having a house built and closing date was not final yet but will be in August. Definition of “notice” in VA seems to be broad and indicates something about facts and circumstances. Help!
